College Hoops 2K8 Review

2K8 basketball games just get it right. They offer some of the most realistic gameplay ever seen in a video game. If you are looking for a true sim, CH 2K8 is the game to get. You can run with multiple teams in your Dynasty mode (Legacy, create and easily modify players, and what's neat about this year's game is you can creat a prospect at the high school level, play with him in the summer camp games. With your team you can monitor all of these players progressions to find out who you want to recruit. It is really a nice-added feature to the game. As for the gameplay itself, there are still some minor issues: 1). the CPU on your team does not get back in transition to guard other players very well. And by the time you switch off to the player with the ball, it's too late. They have already scored. 2). too many missed open layups and mid-range shots. Star players on North Carolina just don't miss open shots like that! 3). Graphics, though decent, still look a bit cartoonish to my standards. The arenas look O.K., but not nearly as good as you'll find in March Madness 08. Player models are good, but again, I don't think they come close to what MM has produced. 4). The menu screens, though minor, 2K really needs to update those. They get the job done, but they're a bit outdated. Again, MM 08 has the better menu screens. 5). The color commentary: 2K8 needs to really work on this. It's just not as exciting as it should be.

Overall: this game is fun to play besides some minor issues. It lacks in certain areas compared to MM 08, but I think overall it offers the better gameplay and depth and freedom you will want in a college basketball game this season. 8-10.

If you're a tennis fan, then this is definitely a game to get. You have a wide variety of real life stars to choose from, or you can custom design your own to match your playing style.

Your character selection is great - 24 names including Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, Roger Federer and much more. You can custom create your own character with the hair style and look that matches you.

As you play, you earn stars which you can apply to a variety of skill types. You can buy training and enter in low level tournaments to hone your skills. Sure, some of those beginning tournaments might be on questionable courts with only a few audience members - but once you begin to prove your talents you can work your way up to the larger scale arenas.

I really appreciated the fine detail in each court. You don't start out in large, lush arenas. You start out on concrete courts with cracks, with barely a dozen people watching. Random passer-bys walk or bicycle along the court's edge. Take heart, though - after months of hard work and practice (in game time) you'll be wowing the larger audiences.

My boyfriend used to play tennis quite seriously and was quite impressed with the accuracy of much of the game. The different types of shots actually sound differently. The characters move very fluidly for the most part and react as a real tennis player would. There are stumbles as they chase the ball, racquet spins while they wait for a shot.

They try to give you an "environment feel" with the sound. For example, when you're playing a tournament in Japan you get asian style music. As mentioned, the tennis shot sounds do actually sound like the ball would in various situations. Really, other than that, you get audience clapping. What else do you want to hear in tennis?

If you've never really played tennis before, you might really come to appreciate just how much strategy is involved in a game of tennis. If you're a tennis player, you can really hone your strategic skills by playing this, seeing what works and what doesn't work depending on the court type and situation.

Well recommended!

Fun for reciting lines, and the funky music. Game play is moderately fun for awhile but can become redundent. Controls are good and the graphics are decent for xbox.

X-Men Legends Review

X-Men Legends
Average Reviews:

The title of best X-Men video game ever isn't saying much - past efforts have bordered on criminal. However, Legends offers a fresh spin on the comic book genre by placing it in an RPG format. With a total of 15 playable characters and the ability to control a party of 4 at any given time (except for the first stage in which you start with Wolverine), the game offers a high level of variety which creates high replay value. Some of the pros and cons are:

Pros:
Many playable characters
Control any one of the 4 members of your current party
Good combat and experience system
Excellent story reminiscent of traditional x-men comics

Cons:
Mediocre graphics and sound
Must unlock certain characters as the game progresses

This game took me about 20 hours to complete. The level designs are long, but there are save points along the way where you can save and change your party if you want.Playing the game through a second time is an option not only because of the number of characters, but you can pour experience points into various skills, essentially changing the same character each time you play.

If you are a fan of the X-Men, you will love this game.It is well worth the price tag.

For the most part, the World War I scenario is well put together and is a fairly challenging game. One moves their way up the ranks as skill and daringness prevail. The graphics do not do Xbox justice, but are okay. My only real gripe is that there is only one view as you fly the airplane (as if you are just behind the plane, or as the game says, "flying machine"). I would rather have a cockpit view while flying... Incidentally, a realistic perspective is offered while manning various machine-guns - go figure. Overall the game deserves a chance to match skill and wits with the enemy!

Secret Service: Ultimate Sacrifice Review

Maybe my opion is jaded since so many downright BAD games have come out for the 360, but this game is not bad.The controls seem pretty realistic, not twitchy or loose, actually the guns all have a lot of recoil so running around and shooting can be difficult, you really are better off finding cover and picking people off. There is a decent assortment of weapons, a pretty diverse assortment of levels, actually in all honesty, the final level takes place on Air Force One, and I would argue that although this level is probably the shortest in the game, and the final 'boss' may be very well one of the easiest ever, the level itself was very very fun and unique.

As far as first person shooters go you can do a lot worse (games like Legendary, Turning Point, Wanted etc). This game will take you about 8-10 hours to beat, and you may want to play through again to touch up on some of the achievements and collectibles etc, but the 8-10 hours really will be enjoyed since this game does offer something a little different.

Silent Hill 4 The Room Review

Silent Hill 4 The Room
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Silent Hill 4: The Room is the most unusual entry in a most unusual video game franchise. While earlier installments in the series have focused on stories designed to evoke spine-chilling horror, this fourth chapter in the saga causes much deeper feelings of anxiety and unease. I remember being more traditionally scared playing Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, but the underlying, more psychological sensation of existential dread I felt playing this game was something altogether new.

The Silent Hill games have shown a narrative progression by which the nature of the town is expanded upon in each game. In the first two games, your character went to Silent Hill and had his horrific adventure. In the third, Silent Hill itself "came to" the main character of Heather, who merely wanted to have a nice day at the mall. In Silent Hill 4, the town has now invaded your last refuge of security, your home.

You play Henry Townshend, who lives alone in a small apartment in the bustling town of South Ashfield, half a day's drive from Silent Hill. After suffering from inexplicable nightmares, Harry awakens to find that his apartment door has been chained and padlocked shut from the INSIDE. He can't open his windows, and no one, even people standing directly outside his front door, can hear him when he pounds on the door and cries for help.

The game expertly evokes the desperate confusion and lurking fear you would feel if you simply couldn't get out of your house. The strangeness of Henry's situation is underscored by the fact that, tantalizingly, he can see the real world right outside his window, with cars and pedestrians zipping by on a street only fifty yards away. Neighbors in the apartment building opposite his can be seen going about their business (one guy, amusingly, is playing air guitar). The banality of day to day life takes on a whole new meaning when one person is suddenly set apart from it by horrific circumstances he can't understand or control. The next time you're taking a walk down the block, imagine if something terrifyingly Silent Hill-ish was happening to someone in the very house you're walking past, and you're safe outside with no way of knowing. The whole character of the neighborhood will change. That's the kind of thing the Silent Hill series does so well: conveying the deep terror that can result when what is normal and commonplace suddenly and without warning goes all WRONG.

The action begins when Henry discovers that a large hole has emerged in his bathroom wall. As it's the only way out, he must crawl through it, and doing so, finds himself in the decaying, blood-spattered environments of Silent Hill with which the series' fans have become so familiar. But this game offers alarming differences. Some of the creatures that menace you -- like the ghosts that look more like floating paralyzed corpses -- can't be killed, and others -- like the two-headed babies that walk on adult arms -- are so bizarre they beggar imagination. You're also limited in what you can carry, and the only place you can save your game is in your apartment, a safe haven you can return to through holes in walls spread throughout the levels. But even that safe haven isn't safe for long.

In earlier games, the horror, while nightmarish, was still rooted in a sense of realism that, in turn, created realistic horror. You'd walk down dark corridors or misty deserted streets armed with a flashlight and your weapon. But here, the environments are more outrageously surreal, as if you're literally wandering through a bad dream. Spiral staircases seem to float in thin air. A enormous woman's face peers at you from a hospital wall. Living tendrils of no discernible biology dangle upwards from the floor to bar your way. Wheelchairs zoom down corridors by themselves, as if it were a freeway for paraplegic ghosts. It's as if the game designers just decided to let Salvador Dali loose with 3D rendering software and instructions that he was to exercise no restraint at all in coming up with ways to freak people out.

Sometimes it gets a little TOO weird. At times I found myself less frightened by this game than morbidly intrigued; I was actually interested in getting to certain rooms just to see what kind of crazy thing I'd encounter next. In that sense, I'd have to say the earlier games work a little better as pure, edge of your seat, bloodcurdling horror. But Silent Hill 4 still does a bang-up job of generating an entirely different kind of fear, one that doesn't so much leap out at you from the dark as crawl deep into the back of your mind and lurk there.

I leave you with two pieces of advice. One: if you're new to the series, don't start here, start with 2 and 3. Two: don't take the doll.

I love this game on the PC and I love it on the Xbox. The load time is much faster on the Xbox and the graphics are just great. It was just as addicting on the console as I played it for hours when I first got it.
My only gripe with this Xbox version is the two player mode. This great feature can only be unlocked after completing several "scenarios" within the game. For those of us that are all too familiar with this game, unlocking that feature is tiresome and boring!
Other than that, it is a great game to own

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Review

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Average Reviews:

I've always been told the "good things come to those who wait." Well, in this case a GREAT thing has come.
Like another reviewer, I also just recently purchased my 360 (just yesterday!), though I'd had Oblivion on order for months. I suffered a little buyer's remorse seeing as the $400 for the system really wasn't budgeted at the time I dropped it, but the second I started playing this game, it all seemed to come together.
I'd heard alot about some of the 360's launch titles bombing, and how everyone was still waiting for the "next gen-ness" of this next gen console. So, as a die-hard "Morrowind" fan, my biggest fear was that the hype for this title would match it against standards it couldn't meet. Bethesda has stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball right out of its skin!
Visually, this game is amazing. The grass, the flowers, the trees, the statues, the rocks, the ruins, it's all breath-taking; there's truly no point in trying to describe the visuals here- words simply will not do. The character creation has got to be one of the most meticulous processes I've ever come across; I spent about 40 minutes tweaking my guy's nose, eyes and complexion to get them just right! Long story short, if you invest enough time (because there are tons of features you're able to adjust,) you can most likely make a character that looks disturbingly like yourself...
The combat system is much improved from Morrowind, not to mention more realistic. There's blood now and the 'rag-doll' mechanics are the perfect addition- I didn't even realize I wanted rag-dolls until I chopped a guy down at the top of a staircase who then proceeded to tumble down the stairs and lay beaten in a lifeless heap. My jaw simply dropped; it's the little things. I also like that the magic is a bit more accessible now; you need not toggle between melee and magic stances which made for some awkward moments in Morrowind...
The music is perfect. Unlike the sole score in Morrowind that permeated the entire game from beginning to end, Oblivion sports musical themes of mysticism, nature, dungeons, danger, heroism and a bunch others as far as I can tell. I have yet to feel any need to even think about utilizing the 360's awesome custom soundtrack feature with this game.
While all the reading that turned so many people away from Morrowind never bothered me, I must admit that the fact that everything is voiced over makes for a much more engulfing experience. And I do mean everything! No matter which direction you may steer a conversation, the people you'll interact with are on the ball with pertinent, AUDIBLE responses. And don't forget to eavesdrop every now and again; I've been told that you can even pick up some quest by litterally over-hearing NPCs talking amongst themselves!
That brings me to the NPCs (Non-Player/able Characters.) Unlike Morrowind and every other RPG since time immemorial, Oblivion's NPCs do not wander aimlessly, in predictable patterns or stay still in the same place day after day. These NPCs have been equipped with an AI of sorts that has them live there own life (based roughly on a 24 hour schedule, I believe) and interact with there surroundings! They sleep, they eat, they leave their houses to go to market or hang out in bars!
Oh, and the Collector's Edition IS worth the extra $10; very much so! The manual discussing the history of Tamriel is quite an interesting, descriptive read, and I'll admit a bit of childish pride in owning an authentic replica of a gold Septim! But the real gem of the C.E. is the second disc devoted strictly to detailing the making of this epic game. I'm a huge fan of "behind-the-scenes" stuff; I'm often made to consider things I might miss or take for granted without truly appreciating the labors and details that obviously go into creating games of this magnitude. I came away with an even deeper appreciation for the folks at Bethesda.
I could go on, but I've rambled enough. The game is truly amazing and is a worthy exercise of the 360's potential. Fellow Morrowind fans, if you haven't played this yet, you have no idea what you're missing; this is everything we've always wanted Morrowind to be and more. I'll close by saying that if Oblivion is what we've got to see in a next gen consle only four months after its launch, I get goosebumps imagining what we'll see in the months and years to come.

Far Cry Instincts Predator Review

Far Cry Instincts Predator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Far Cry Instincts Predator is the XBox 360 update of two games - Far Cry Instincts and Far Cry Instincts Evolution. Neither of those XBox games will play on the 360, so it's well worth getting this new version!

You are Jack Carver, a marine who was a quiet boat captain, but ended up under attack on a remote tropical island. You're luckily very good with knives, guns and anything else you get your hands on. You're in this alone, so there's a lot of sneaking around, taking out enemies and lurking in the shadows.

On the Predator version you have to play through the first game (Far Cry Instincts) before you unlock the sequel (Far Cry Instincts Evolution) which makes sense to me, although it could prove frustrating for people who have already played Instincts and want to get right to Part 2.

The graphics are really nice on the 360 - they've definitely been updated from the original XBox version. Still, they aren't quite as stellar as some other XBox 360 releases. I suppose it's always hard porting a game up, to use the same code but make it look "nicer" without spending years doing it. Still, it looks more like XBox + instead of XBox 360. Still, it's nice to see the grasses swaying in the wind and the dappled shadows playing across the sand.

The sound is rather well done. You get the chirping of jungle birds, the hollow footsteps on planks, the crackle of radio transmission. There isn't a pounding rock soundtrack, which I really appreciate. If I'm a covert soldier creeping through vegetation, I want to be listening as hard as I can for odd noises - not having to screen out the fake music.

The game does give you objectives as you go along, but how you achieve those objectives is pretty much up to you. You can race in with guns blazing, sneak in quietly through the woods, march up the main path, or any other option you can think up. While the game is relatively short (a few days to finish) this also means that you can replay quite a bit, trying out other options and seeing what happens.

Of course, single player mode is just the beginning - it's only a training ground. Check out the incredible map editor, and go online to play your own custom maps LIVE against other skilled players 24 hours a day. It's this aspect that makes the game truly stellar, and one you could play for months without getting bored.

Highly recommended!

Project Gotham Racing Review

Project Gotham Racing
Average Reviews:

One of the best racing games available on any console, Project Gotham (PGR) improves upon the wonderful Metropolis Street Racer (Dreamcast) in EVERY way.PGR is extremely challenging, visually striking, and full of replay value and many modes of play.
First, gameplay.PGR features a mix of realism and arcade-speed in its handling that is beyond compare.I gave my brother a shot at a very tight track in NYC with a Porsche Boxster. He was doing fairly well--as far as he knew--after only a lap or two.He is a casual gamer who only plays sports games, baseball and Madden. So if he can handle it so quickly and so well, then anyone can.
BUT, then there are Kudos points, which you must earn by driving aggressively and with style. This my brother would need much time to learn, how to string together a tail-out slide through cone markers while passing two cars and avoiding walls at the same time...plus coming in 1st!Manage all this and you'll earn Kudos to open up new cars and tracks, even extra play modes, helmets, etc.Real skill is needed in this game, on many dimensions.
Now gameplay modes: you may be tasked with passing a certain number of cars in a certain time limit; beating a fast car one-on-one; earning a set number of Kudos on a track in a given number of time and laps (very hard); beating a specified average time; beating a specified single time, and more!In fact, after 5 hours of playing, the game will open up an entire new game mode called Medal Pursuit (in which the focus shifts away from powerslides to absolutely clean driving to beat a best time)! So much game!
Oh, and then graphics. The game is inarguably more graphically accomplished than even GT3 on PS2.For instance, cars in GT3 generally only have "paintd-on" bodylines such as at doors, hoods, trunks. In PGR there are so many more polygons used that you can actually see the sun reflect WITHIN the modeled bodylines!Superb.
PGR is flatly the best racer on the market for those who truly desire challenge, great gameplay, awesome music (including the ability to import your own from the hard drive), incredible 60fps graphics, and longevity. You will not be getting that Ferrari F50 until you've shown some serious mettle.A must-have racer for a must-have system.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Review

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good:
- C&C continues to have the best controls on a console. The new radial interface is an improvement and helps with gaining some 'speed' when selecting the commands. I was worried that this interface would be as sensitive as Mass Effect, but it's not. Selecting what you want is easy.
- The missions are well balanced and are not necessarily harder than C&C3. The problem - as usual - is not with the game difficulty, but withselecting the controls as fast as with a mouse. I don't know if difficulty has been toned a little for this XBox 360 version, but it's manageable.
- This is an expansion pack, but doesn't require the other game to play it. Missions start similarly to C&C3, without having the entire Tech Tree available from the early missions. This will help out people that never played this before, as will give them a chance to learn the game. There is also a Boot Camp section - but it's too basic. SPOILER ALERT: Skipping the Boot Camp unlocks an achievement.

The bad:
- C&C games have never been known for deep stories, but this game really has the most confusing one. In the end, you watch the cut scenes for what they are and enjoy what follows after them.
- My favorite faction is GDI and this game only covers NOD. However - again, the good thing is that the missions bring the best out of what NOD can do, so this works out pretty good in the end.

Bottom line: If you like C&C games, you will like this one too. Until Red Alert 3 is released, there is enough material here to keep you busy, from Multiplayer, to Skirmish and Kane's Challenge matches. If you are new to this game, maybe C&C3 would be a better starting point, because it has more missions and more variety. In any case - C&C games continue to be the best RTS offering on consoles.

Perfect Dark Zero Review

Perfect Dark Zero
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although I was worried about purchasing this game at launch (because of the bad reader reviews), I have found it an amazingly deep and complex title. I have finished this game in single player and multiplayer (online mode) and there are a few unique features you need to know about when considering this title:

1. Varying gameplay based on difficulty: When you change the difficulty setting, you are given additional side-missions which you can achieve. One example is a boat that needs to be blown up to protect one of your operatives. This is a refreshing change to the rather boring alternative of just having guys who can withstand more headshots or are using faster moving computer AI. This also makes for a more immersive game, since you feel like a real secret agent, who's being trusted with more responsibility as your skills increase.

2. Varying gameplay based in single vs. multiplayer: When I first started playing this with a friend, I was amazed to find that it is actually a different experience. Rather than just heading down the same road as the single player game, the characters actually split paths and have different objectives. For example, on one level, I was a sniper on a roof, providing cover fire for my partner while he was down below trying to complete objectives for the mission. The game actually takes longer to play co-op, and it brings a lot of extra enjoyment.

3. Co-op over Xbox Live: If you have a friend with a 360 who lives far from you, you can play the game together cooperatively. This is a very nice feature for those of us who get tired of being verbally assaulted by teenagers and completely wiped out by the pros. It also allows for a more strategic gameplay, as you can try out different manuvers and see how they work against the AI.

4. Excellent multiplayer support: The game supports all 4 Xbox 360 controllers. You can even go online with 4 players on a single 360 to really help in a team game. This is the only 360 title that I know of that makes this possible. It's great when you want to really show off the power of the 360.

All of this rolls up into a really nice title for the Xbox 360. And, now that I've played it all the way through, I would certainly recommend it for anyone who wants to get a lot of gameplay out of a FPS (First Person Shooter) game with Next-Gen graphics!

This game is truly revolutionary. I am a football nut and watch the games on Setanta all week long. The Wii interface is a dream come true. You can control players off the ball with ease, and strategically control a match. Passing all over the field is as easy as pointing the cursor on-screen. Defending is much more about controlling the gaps, and man-marking rather than button-smashing. Corners and set pieces are brilliant as you send players on runs to draw away defenders and then sneak in a fullback at the last moment for a free header.

Seriously, this game is the best thing to happen to football games in a long time. Fifa/W11 are just graphical improvements one year over next ad nauseum. They can't touch the change in gameplay that we have here in the Wii version.

Granted, the graphics and presentation are not the best, but I prefer watching swimsuit models in HD if I want eye candy.

Great deal for the best sports game on the Wii!

I've played this for over a week now, so I'm revising my earlier review. I still say there are some definite improvements.

The CPU can actually play offense now!I was getting quite bored with the complete inability of the CPU to run, and minimal ability to pass.It was fun to rack up the stats, but winning 84-0 even in Heisman mode got old.The CPU receivers can actually catch the ball, and the quarterback actually avoids sacks and scrambles for positive yards on blitzes and draws. In All-American and Heisman difficulty levels, the defense AI manages to catch on to your play calling pattern a lot better than before, so you're can't successfully run the same play over and over again as easily as before. There is some benefit though, you can REALLY exploit an over eager defense with the right play action, screen pass (which actually works for positive yards now), or draw plays. It works to your disadvantage on defense though, because if you are not creative and run the same defense on the same formations over and over again, the CPU will burn you. They have also added some new defensive QB Spy plays (e.g. Nickle DE and Nickle OLB Double Spy plays) which work very well against the option.

The best new features by far are the impact players, and "in the zone" modes. Both player and CPU impact players when "in the zone" make some spectacular plays, and fun post play celebrations.Thankfully, the refs are not as trigger happy with the unsportsmanlike conduct flag. The timing of the players going "in the zone" is quite good.It happens at key moments in the game on key plays.Unfortunately, and I may discover this not to be true later, is that you can't seem to develop an impact player during the course of a season. They are locked in and set for the entire season. If you end up with a linebacker with 60 tackles, a dozen sacks, and a half dozen forced fumbles and interceptions by mid-season, I should think that he is an impact player by any definition.

The Dynasty mode is about the same as 2005, but one REALLY nice feature is season long recruiting. You are shown the potential weaknesses in positions where you would lose seniors, so you are given 12 scholarship bids you can put out and monitor recruit interest and allocate 0-100% of points weekly amongst recruits throughout the year. They have also added academics as a pitch.Unfortunately, (and maybe I just haven't figured out how yet), you cannot choose the recruiting pitch criteria nor choose to scout. The AI doesn't do the best job, because let's say you figure the pitch to use is Program Prestige, the CPU continues to pitch other things. The only time you can choose the pitch is during in campus visits. There is a menu option to select when you can pitch, but it's always set to campus visits, and I can't change it even if I disable the recruiting AI assistance. You also get a lot more 5 and 4 star duds with "poor" to "average" potential which was very rare in 2005.Sadly, you are locked in with 12 recruits at the beginning of the season, so you can't replace any choice, and all you can do is change the priority percentage to 0 and hope he withdraws from contention. You cannot target kickers or punters during the season.Another nice new feature is that you can auto-name the select or complete rosters, so no more of the Position + Jersey Number schemes for the first few seasons. However, in Race for the Heisman mode, you have to do that before you start the campaign, because you absolutely cannot edit the rosters in his mode.

The most spectacular feature which makes this game far superior to 2005 is the Heisman Race mode. You select a player position, and run drills for college scouts.Depending on how well you perform, you get scholarship offers from various schools which you can choose to accept, or go in as a walk-on to any school you select. It would seem the ability scores and the number and quality of offers are directly correlated to how well you do in the drill. My first run through with an RB, I only scored 3 touchdowns in 10 tries, and got offers from three schools ranging in rank from #51 to #58 in addition to walk-on.I ran through it again, scored 7/10 times, and this time I got some offers from top-25 teams. This also sets the ability scores which cannot be modified. The gameplay, as I mentioned, is spectacular, and the games when teams are close in level, are exceptionally close. There are some caveats to this mode.It might seem that you have no control over rosters and recruiting in this mode. You also have no access to the pennant collection, and cannot edit rosters (names, equipment, etc.), and can only set the depth chart during the game, and it does not carry over to the next game. You can play pennants during the game, but to cash in points and enter codes, you have to exit Heisman and go to Dynasty mode.Having said that, I think Pennants are irrelevant because the gameplay (especially passing) is much improved.Rushing has become a lot harder which is a good thing, especially because I-Form Normal counter play is not a guaranteed touchdown with 4-3 man coverage & wide receiver motion like it used to be.

There are some other odds & ends.

The Good:

- You can switch the controller to either team's side during the game. This is really fun if you choose to play some of the marquee games and play either offense or defense on both sides.I don't recall this ability in 2005.It will disable pennants if one of the teams is user controlled.

- You can't edit player skills in Race for Heisman mode, so you can't create a super player. The skills are set during tryout.

- There is less discrepency in the coaches/media rankings. In 2005, if a team started too far down, at one point it would be ranked #2 in the media poll, but #25 in the coaches poll.

The Bad:

- You can't redshirt your Heisman hopeful. If you do well enough in the tryout, you may end up on a top team with a 99 skill senior in your position, and it seems insane that a freshman would get the start.

- Players and refs still walk through each other in the post play animations.

- It is sometimes raining with clear blue skies, and sometimes there is sunshine during night games!:)

- The OL gets WAY too many pancakes. After my first season, my center had 288 pancakes!Even mediocre OL players pancake all but impact D-Linemen on 20-50% of the plays. The CPU doesn't get that benefit.

- You can edit *every* skill value when you create a prospect up to the 99 maximum. In 2005, the upper bounds were limited by player position and size. Now every created prospect can be a super Paul Hornung. It would have been nice to create an "athelate" prospect with some limits, but this one goes too far.

- On the Xbox, they switch the select player button from X to B, so it takes some getting used to.The juke function has moved from the right trigger to the right paddle, so it is extremely difficult to pull combination spin, hurdle, juke moves without your right thumb fumbling and flailing all over the place.

- In the weekly schedules, when you looked at the game info, it would show the teams' current ranking whether they were in the top 25 or not, but now, you only see that right before the game starts, or right after it ends. There is also no longer an overall grade for a team. You just have offense, defense, and special team grades.

The Ugly:

- Who in the blazes picked the menu colors?Dark navy text on a black background? That is what you get for your team in Race or Dynasty mode. The contrast is so poor, it actually hurt my eyes.I can't believe the Beta testers did not riot over this. They also had some nice red-yellow-green shading for NCAA interest level, coach job security, etc., but they've gone to solid colors now. There is no longer a grading system for coach job security.

- All the player pictures in roster and recruiting screens look like county sherrif mug shots. This is a really major step down from the last version. Also, the refs have five o'clock shadows and look like they came to the game all hung over after throwing an all night drunk.

- During late afternoon games, the shadow coverd parts of the field are pitch black! If your team is wearing light uniforms,
you can barely see them, and if the other team is wearing dark uniforms, you absolutely cannot see them until they tackle you or intercept your pass.

- They changed the kick meter to Madden style, and I personally do not like it one bit. However, that is entirely subjective.

All in all, this game is an absolute "must buy" if only for the Heisman mode.I will be wasting a signficant number of hours of my life on this game!

Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning Review

Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I regret to say that I am very disappointed in this game. I've loved the Spyro games since playing the original 'Spyro the Dragon' for PS1 and was really looking forward to this one.

I will admit that the graphics are terrific and the voice cast is excellent but the gameplay is BORING! There's no collecting of items (other than collecting health, breath, rage and power-up gems) and there's no side quests. One thing I've always loved about Spryo is the sides -- the skateboarding, the flying challenges, the puzzles -- even 'Enter the Dragonfly' and 'Hero's Tail' had them and those games weren't very well put together. There are two times during the game when you get to fly but these are not challenges, they're simple 'fly and escape' modes -- very, very easy to beat.

This game is pure combat. You enter an area, beat some enemies, go to the next area, beat some more enemies, etc., go to the next area, beat a boss, free a dragon, learn some skills (which is annoying -- I get it already, why do I have to practice this stuff????) and then, guess what --go to another area and start all over.

On top of all that, there are only SIX very short and linear levels (there's absolutely NO exploration or hidden areas) and the last boss is no more difficult to defeat than the first ones are. There are no extras after you beat the game (unless you count an interview with Elijah Wood) and while you can play the game a second time while keeping your powered up breaths, it's not a true challenge mode because the monsters and bosses are just as easy to beat (easier actually because you have all of your breaths powered up the second time). So, along with all of its other problems, this game also has absolutely NO replay value. It's just as easy and boring the second time 'round.

So, great graphics, great voice overs, but NO FUN. I care very little for what Spyro sounds like and not much more about what he looks like, I just care about what he DOES and in this game, he does very, very little. I will admit that the ability to power up breaths is a neat addition, it's just too bad that there's nothing to do with those breaths!

I'm just glad I rented this game before buying it because I don't think I want to spend money (even though I own all of the Spyro games (the PS1 games, the GBA games and the other two PS2 games)). I would say that unless you are looking for a very simple, very short (it took me less than a day to beat the game the first time) game for a young or inexperienced gamer who loves cute characters (or you are a diehard Spyro fan who just HAS to have all of the games), DO NOT waste your money on this one (buy the original PS1 Spyro's if you're just starting out with him but skip this one).

I really hope they do another Spyro soon and bring back the Spyro I've loved for so long.

Rumble Roses XX Review

Rumble Roses XX
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting when I loaded up Rumble Roses XX for the first, but I do remember I wasn't expecting to be impressed. So much for pre-judgment.

Rumble Roses XX turned out to be a pretty sweet game.

First off, I have to say, I rarely ever play wrestling games. The last one I played was on the Dreamcast, and I thought it sucked (the game, not the system). So, if there is any common criteria by which such games are judged by, I am unaware of them.I can only comment on what I liked and disliked about the title.

That said, I must say, there wasn't much about the title I didn't like.

Rumble Roses XX, is a wrestling game. All of the standard characters you play with are female. There are a variety of play modes to enjoy and entertain you and your friends with.

The graphics are gorgeous, and I'm not just talking about those lovely polygon models that you wrestle with (though they are, err... composed very well). The stages you play on are richly detailed and beautiful. The soundtrack never seems to be inappropriate; every song or tune seems to match the moment it is played. The character models are well designed and well animated. Most model motions are smooth, fluid and natural looking with the odd exception of the execution of a few of the holding moves.I'm pretty sure most normal people can't bend like these character models can bend.

Graphics, sounds, and pretty polygons are all done very well, but all those points would amount to nil without good game play to enjoy them with.Fortunately, Rumble Roses XX has very solid but simple game play.Nearly all moves are executed by hitting a single direction and a button.Special moves are executed by positioning yourself correctly, and hitting a simple combination of buttons (usually no more than two). The most annoying control issue is the mashing of buttons to escape holds or pins, but that seems to be a universal design flaw among almost all wrestling games I've read about.

You can participate in a variety of different match types against a computer opponent. You have the traditional one on one match, the tag team match, battle royal free for all matches, handicapped matches (two on one), and humiliation matches. With the exception of the humiliation match, in all of these you win by pinning your opponent to the mat or having them submit to a hold.

Rumble Roses XX has in addition to the wrestling mode, a street fighting mode. This is a sort of simplified `Street Fighter' type fighting mode.Your wrestling moves are limited, and you have a `life bar'. You win a round by simply pummeling your opponent until their life bar is empty, and you win a fight by winning two out of three rounds. It does make for a nice change of pace from the normal wrestling matches.

Complementing the primary wrestling focus of this title, there is a collecting aspect that features many things may be unlocked. Each character has many outfits you can acquire. These outfits run the range from very revealing thong bikinis and suggestive shorts, to combat gear and school girl outfits. There is a photo shoot mode where you can take pictures ofthe characters wearing the outfits you have unlocked while they participate in special activities you have also unlocked (like riding a bike, swimming, or stretching).

Also, in addition to unlocking additional outfits, each character has a counterpart that can be unlocked. The game has a face versus heel arrangement (good guy versus bad guy). Each face character has a heel version you can unlock, and the same goes for the heel characters. Each character version has her own unique outfit and intro movie.

In addition to playing against the computer, there is an `Exhibition Mode' where you can play against up to three friends, and use the outfits you have unlocked. All of the wrestling match types, along with the street fighting mode, are available.I've found this to be a very enjoyable element of the game.

Rumble Roses XX lets you online to play against others, and even lets you share photos you have taken.

There are only three things about this game that annoy me, all fairly minor.

The first thing that I found annoying is that it is a great pain to change a characters costume in the `Exhibition Mode'.You can only change the color of the outfit your wrestler is wearing, or pick her `Super Star' outfit if it is available. To change the outfit to something different you have to exit out of the exhibition mode, load up your single player character, change her costume there, then go back to the Exhibition Mode.Very annoying of you have four people who keep wanting to change outfits.

The second most annoying thing I found about Rumble Roses XX is that it is unclear what you are supposed to do in the single player mode, and how you progress in the game.If it is explained in the manual, I overlooked it.I just kept playing matches until I won a title.

The last thing that annoyed me about this game (and this is really the most minor) is that there was no kind of training mode.I guess I've played too many fighting games where this feature is provided and I've come to expect it.

Over all, I have to say, I enjoyed this game greatly. It's entertaining to play by yourself, and is a great title to bring out when your friends come over.

Unexpectedly, Rumble Roses XX turned out to be a really sweet smelling rose, without any thorns.
