(More customer reviews)2K8 basketball games just get it right. They offer some of the most realistic gameplay ever seen in a video game. If you are looking for a true sim, CH 2K8 is the game to get. You can run with multiple teams in your Dynasty mode (Legacy, create and easily modify players, and what's neat about this year's game is you can creat a prospect at the high school level, play with him in the summer camp games. With your team you can monitor all of these players progressions to find out who you want to recruit. It is really a nice-added feature to the game. As for the gameplay itself, there are still some minor issues: 1). the CPU on your team does not get back in transition to guard other players very well. And by the time you switch off to the player with the ball, it's too late. They have already scored. 2). too many missed open layups and mid-range shots. Star players on North Carolina just don't miss open shots like that! 3). Graphics, though decent, still look a bit cartoonish to my standards. The arenas look O.K., but not nearly as good as you'll find in March Madness 08. Player models are good, but again, I don't think they come close to what MM has produced. 4). The menu screens, though minor, 2K really needs to update those. They get the job done, but they're a bit outdated. Again, MM 08 has the better menu screens. 5). The color commentary: 2K8 needs to really work on this. It's just not as exciting as it should be.

Overall: this game is fun to play besides some minor issues. It lacks in certain areas compared to MM 08, but I think overall it offers the better gameplay and depth and freedom you will want in a college basketball game this season. 8-10.

Graphics are good but not great, let alone awesome(play a game in the rain...waaay too choppy for next-gen graphics).Gameplay is ok, but not as smooth, consistent, and fun as past incarnations.It is also missing some options, features, and extras from past NCAA titles(but don't worry, i'm sure they'll offer these bit by bit as downloadable content in the future where you gotta fork over more money as apparently $60 off the rack isn't enough).I'm sure there are EA loyalists/apologists who think i'm a hater(it's true, i hate EA so much i've bought most of their NCAA football titles for the past decade or so including their first on the Sega Genesis way back when, and my favorite incarnation of them all: NCAA 2004 with coverboy Carson Palmer on the Gamecube!).

But anyway, is this a terrible game?Not really.if you can 'overlook' and 'forgive', it's good enough graphics and gameplay-wise.But if you used up all your 'look the other way/turn the other cheek' mentality with the also-disappointing(but better-looking at least) MADDEN 2006 on 360; then i STRONGLY recommend you rent this game first or read better and more detailed reviews on the game before buying it.I wish i had before i bought this game.Then at least my lowered expectations wouldn't have set me up for such a huge let-down.Recommended only as a rental or 'read reviews first before buying'.Seriously, after MADDEN 2006, i thought EA learned that next-gen games(at next-gen prices i might add), needed to have everything last-gen games had and more.With NCAA 2007, i guess not.Perhaps NCAA 2008 will be the game we're all hoping for.Hope MADDEN 2007 at least addresses all the concerns of its previous incarnation on 360.

Btw, can others tell me:
how do you change the camera angle?
how do you set up a demo game to watch cpu vs cpu?
where's the slick front end and in-between-game presentations?
why do the graphics sometimes slow down, seem choppy, etc?
how do you create-a-school?
where's the sports-illustrated covers?

Maybe many of these are unlockables or rewards for achievements-earned during gameplay and hopefully NOT extra-cost downloadables.But hey, the EA execs gotta eat don't they?But not to worry, NCAA 2007 will sell by the truckload cause the majority rules.And in this day and age, the majority says "we'll take hd graphics over features and gameplay anyday".The majority has spoken.

(More customer reviews)I picked this game up to replace last year's version, and as a huge fan of college football I was pleased to see some neat additions (such as icing the kicker) that became a big part of the lexicon during last year's crazy season.

If you've played any of the games in the NCAA series, you know what to expect. Some new features for this year's version include "celebrating with the mascot" where you can run over to the mascot after running a touchdown and perform an animated celebration (mascot worshiping you/dancing around/etc.). The sideline players/cheerleaders/coaches actually exist this year, unlike in NCAA 08 when they mysteriously weren't on the sidelines during a game. You'll see cheerleaders dancing, players on the sidelines getting out of your way, etc. so the stadium atmosphere is much more alive than it was in last year's version.

Some new gameplay options are tweaks to the way running plays work. No longer can you just click 'go' and push forward, you can now find and exploit holes in the defense, you can get your offensive line to shift to one side to cover your option play, you can basically fine-tune your plays a bit more (as well as bluff your play art when playing side-by-side with a friend, something you couldn't do before).

On passing plays, you no longer have to worry about the AI intercepting the ball constantly. If they aren't facing it, they won't catch it. If you throw it directly into coverage though, do expect to be picked off.

Tackling has been upgraded, as has evasion. You can evade tackles if you know what you are doing, and you can also one-arm tackle, hit the player so hard they bust a flip and fall flat on their back, and basically do much more than just dive and pray like in NCAA 08.

Other neat features such as online dynasty mode, the ability to set up songs from playlists to play when certain things happen, downloading rosters, etc. give you much more in terms of having customization over your game.

Basically, each particular area in the game has been tweaked in just the right areas, and this is much more of a transition than 07 was to 08.

Bottom line: If they take what they have here and improve it for NCAA 10 then you can expect me to be a happy gamer for a while to come.

My only caveat with the PS3 version (I have both 360 and PS3) is that the controls are not quite as fluid.More often than not I was passing to the wrong guy, or lobbing the football like a girl.This is probably just due to the sixaxis way of handling the game, but maybe also because I was leaned back when playing and it probably didn't like that orientation.Otherwise - excellent choice for your system.

(More customer reviews)Look, I love the franchise.I've picked it up like a loyal lad every single year it's been available.Like so many others, every year I have some small amount of misguided faith that perhaps the serious issues that have plagued the title in the past have been addressed.Like so many others, every year I find myself disappointed once I realize that behind some fluff, the same limitations, bugs and flaws are still present.

I suppose that's not entirely fair.Things do get fixed, but for every step in the right direction, new problems (problems that should NEVER get past a reasonable amount of testing and QA) present themselves.So sure, defenders take better angles this year, and now HB screens are only crazily effective rather than unstoppable.Sure, QB sneaks now see the signal callers just sort of slumping forwards like they're having a cardiac event, which has "fixed" rampant abuse of the same in years past.Sure, they don't call the same plays over and over and over again (like a bomb out of shotgun on 4th and short) in modes like Road to Glory anymore.I appreciate all of this work.

What I don't appreciate is that every single time the AI completes a long play and then hurries to snap the ball, I'm called for offsides because my slow plodding DLmen haven't made it across the line of scrimmage yet (in the real world, they can't snap the ball until it's been set by the officials).I don't appreciate that the rosters aren't just hosed, but they're comically hosed, like someone somewhere just assumed that casuals wouldn't care, and the nutty hard-core types would just be tweaking them anyway.I don't appreciate canned animations being stacked on top of canned animations, rather than having real physics introduced.

Another year, and more fluff.Now Erin Andrews follows your career in Road to Glory.Now the Ohio State marching band will run Script Ohio in the Shoe before games.Now you can spend points in dynasty mode to negatively recruit against other schools.Now you can spend real world money on cheats (Want to always be a 5-star recruit?Want to know which recruits will sign with you?Want an extra pipeline state?).Now you can make your own schools/teams (funny, I thought that was a "new" feature like 5-7 years ago).You can find lists all over the place of the changes, my point is not that they don't update the game, it's that most people who play it would really prefer that the core game, the basic play and functionality of the game, be addressed before we load up with sugary video clips of Erin Andrews and various band formations.

I feel a little disingenuous giving the title 2 stars, because I'll play it, and I'll play it often.As a college football fan, I'll get to 'see' teams play that won't in real life, I'll get to right wrongs that happen during the season (at least in my own silly brain), and I'll get to take in some of that camaraderie that comes with immersing in college football with other passionate fans.And, like a good little addict, I'll be sure to line up again next year to secure my copy of NCAA 11 -- which won't have many of the fixes and changes fans have been clamoring for all along, but will introduce new fluff, new bells and whistles, but a whole new chorus of bugs and flaws to go along with them.

To be fair, some of the brand new issues (this year) that have most outraged fans since the games release on July 14th have been addressed with a quick patch.Online league commissioners may now prevent the use of purchased upgrades that would otherwise afford one player an unfair advantage.The rosters have been at least partially adusted.The sliders are fixed (funny how that's been a recurring issue).That's not really the point though.For what little they did from last year to this year, it simply shouldn't have gone to market with the flaws that it did.EA knows they have a captive and passionate customer base, they know people like me are going to plunk down the cash for the title year after year, perhaps there's just no incentive to really break new ground and advance the franchise when you hold a monopoly on it.

It's a great game (and that's not a contradiction of anything else I've said, believe it or not), but every year we pay the same price for it that we would a standalone title developed from the ground up.Are you seeing updates, improvements, and new features worthy of full-game cost?After so many years in development, after the "next-gen" consoles have been out in the market so long, shouldn't there have been a more meaningful and apparent evolution of the game?Season Showdown is a wonderful new feature, so it's not like I don't appreciate some of the aforementioned fluff.It's just not worth that full game price every single year, year after year, which is why I find myself writing this review, and lamenting the fact that I remain addicted, while EA continues to seemingly do the absolute minimum, and with no attention to detail, every single year.

I'll close the way I opened, because I know daring to knock the game and EA isn't going to sit well with some -- I love the franchise, I play the game religiously, and that's not going to change this year.I just wish I felt a little less like a chump with every new annual release.
