I just got a demo copy of the PS2 version and it is great. The graphics were good, they were very colorful, and the XBox version will look better with fur shading, real lighting, real shadows, and a good steady framerate. The game has the same feel as the first two, and is as good as i hoped.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Review

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball
Average Reviews:

Let me start out by saying a couple of things that genuinely need to be said about this game.First: It is clearly targeted towards the early-to-mid-teen male audience.Second:There was a lot of contorversy when this game came out when it recieved the "Mature" rating from the ESRB, becuase the Dead or Alive games had all been rated "Teen" and Tecmo wanted it to recieve a "Teen" rating as well so its target audience would have an easier time purchasing it.The the ERRB tagged it with the 'Nudity' mark for its reason on giving it the "M" rating.Well, whether there is nudity or not - (there isn't except for very briefly in the intro) - this game more than deserves it's "Mature" rating.Dress up one of a number of young, virtual women, (the womed from the DOA fighting series) in a nukber of ultra-revealing swimsuits and thenyou are free to do whatever you'd like with them. You don't HAVE to play volleyball.Wanna get them tanned?Send 'em to the pool, and rotate the camera, zooming it in and out on any part of their bodies as the lay in the afternoon sun.Buy them accessories like visors, sunglasses, and suntan oil.Have them ride their bike along the beach, or just feel free to stare at them as they swing around on a large tree branch, strectching, flexing, etc, etc.
Still, it's actually a lot of fun.The volleyball system isn't half bad considering it's not the only focus of the game.Sure, the swinging camera takes a lot of getting used - (Your character will spend an awful lot of time off of the screen if you're not careful) - but it's not a hardto deal with. Also, the game includes a virtual casino, where you can bet away your winnings from the volleyabll matches.PLay a number of different slot machines, roulette, poker, or blackjack. Then head back to you hotel room, get some sleep, and start it all over again.
Fun, Funny, enjoyable.

Blinx 2 Masters of Time & Space Review

Ok, this game is just pure fun. Yes, that is what I said, pure fun. You start off by making your own team (for the cats at start), and after you win a mission you get to be the pigs and make your own team for them, all too good. This game has different gameplay modes also, some are: single player, single player co-op, multiplayer vs., plus tests in the single player, and I can't forget to say that you can buy different (usually better) equipment for your team. Also, the multiplayer is great. Because you can upgrade your team in the multiplayer between matches. It's just pure fun. If I were you, I would leave your house right this instant and go buy this game at the nearest store. I hope that this review helped you! (I really do!)

5/5* Good stuff. Very good stuff. Putting it on without the air bubbles was the hardest part of everything. Lol. It got here on time which is a plus, was packed nice and neat. Worth the price, idk. But it's sexy to look at. Lol. Call my 360 "Dank Box 420". Lol. The controller skins are ass though. Didn't look anything like the pic. Just all around suck. But I didn't purchase it for that.

Rock Band Drum Set Review

Rock Band Drum Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the uninitiated, Rock Band takes the Guitar Hero concept and extends it by adding roles for bass, drums and vocals. The game is a lot of fun even in solo mode, but it really shines as a cooperative party game.

So in order to get the most out of the game, you need additional instrument controllers including these drums. At this time, there are no third-party drum kits on the market, so these are your only option. And while these do the trick nicely, there is room for improvement.

The kit includes four drum pads, a kick drum pedal, an adjustable stand, headset plug-in and a pair of (actual-size, wood) drumsticks.Setup is very easy, taking only a few minutes despite the Lego-esque, pictures-only instructions. The height of the kit is adjustable to fit anyone's height from kids to tall adults. However, the pads themselves are unfortunately fixed in position relative to each other, so you can't adjust their angle or move them around individually.Personally, I'd like to be able to set the cymbal pad higher than the rest or swap the hi-hat and snare to play cross-armed, but there's no ability to do this.

There are two main gripes about how the drum kit performs during gameplay:they're too loud and (at least some models) aren't sensitive enough.Lots of after-market mods are becoming available to dampen the harsh clacking sound that the pads make when you play - gum rubber or neoprene inserts, padding for the drumsticks, I've even seen people tie socks to the pads (check it out on Youtube).Expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised at the sound that it makes - it's not that bad assuming that you've got your TV at a decent level to begin with.Of course, this is the only instrument controller that naturally makes its own noise (high-pitched and hollow like a woodpecker) and your roommates or neighbors may feel differently.

As for the sensitivity, there are (so far) three distinct production series of the drum kit.Look on the serial number stamped underneath your pads to determine which you have. The 1st generation "EL" pads have hard surfaces, making it easier to play fast notes but also requiring more force for each hit.2nd generation "QM" pads are softer and more sensitive, but also don't register fast hits as well.3rd generation "SL" pads supposedly are the best of both prior gens, but are too new to really evaluate. The kit that I received from Amazon was an EL, but so far I've been pleased with their performance, i.e. I'm getting good response on fast notes but also not requiring a whole lot of force on the hits.So take the after-market craze for pad modifications worth a grain of salt and judge for yourself before buying anything to add to your kit.

There have also been reports that the kit breaks easily, especially the bass drum pedal.Honestly, I have no idea how other people are playing (abusing) their kits, but I don't see a way for the pedal to snap in half as a result of normal use.I'm playing hard/expert level drums with minimal pressure on the pedal and it's showing no signs of wear or tear. And in case you do run into problems, EA has a generous replacement policy for all Rock Band game controllers.

While setup and takedown are simple enough, the kit still takes up a lot of room even when broken down into its pieces. It can easily fit back into the retail box, and honestly, there's not much more you can do to reduce the space that it requires when stored.Even completely disassembled, it's too big to fit under any couch or chair that I've seen.So plan on either leaving it permanently on display or else losing about half of the floor space in a double-door closet when stowing it.

So is this the end-all-be-all of drum controllers? No.And judging from the popularity of the game and its like, there'll surely be newer and better versions available in the future. But in the meantime, this kit will provide you with hours of fun gameplay - it's guaranteed to always be the "me next" instrument whenever a group of friends gets together to play.

PROS
*Lots of fun to play - makes the most of the Rock Band game
*Pads have good sensitivity and responsiveness (better than I'd expected)

CONS
*Tick-tock sound of hitting the drums may annoy some
*Pads are fixed in place in relation to each other
*Takes up lots of space when not in use

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Review

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ghost Recon is a welcome break from death match, you-must-be-on-speed-to-keep-up type games. Instead of pulling a trigger and running around until you kill someone, this game forces you to develop detailed strategies to accomplish your tasks. The action you do encounter (and there is plenty) is intensified by the fact the stakes are much higher -- a couple of bullets or a well-placed grenade takes you out of the game. This forces you to develop a properly planned and well executed course of action.
The game is squad based. During single player mode, you play one of six soldiers and can switch between them at any time. Your player leads one squad of three, and you set a course of action for the other squad which is controlled by AI. As you complete missions and tasks, you unlock addition items such as new soldiers to choose from. Surviving missions also increases soldier skill.
Ghost Recon has significant replay value. It has 15 levels and 50 different tasks to complete, but because there are so many strategies that can be used to complete a level, they can be played numerous times with the same enjoyment level. Of course, on-line play adds tremendous replay and excitement.
In my opinion, the mark of a good game is how quickly time slips by while you are playing. Time after time I have intended to wrap up in 10 minutes only to find that an hour has passed. This is a fantastic game.
I do have a few complaints. The graphics are generally good, but can be on the choppy side at times. I have also experienced instances where the AI squad didn't do what I had mapped out. But, for the most part, the game is a welcome addition to my game library.

X-Men Legends
Average Reviews:

The title of best X-Men video game ever isn't saying much - past efforts have bordered on criminal. However, Legends offers a fresh spin on the comic book genre by placing it in an RPG format. With a total of 15 playable characters and the ability to control a party of 4 at any given time (except for the first stage in which you start with Wolverine), the game offers a high level of variety which creates high replay value. Some of the pros and cons are:

Pros:
Many playable characters
Control any one of the 4 members of your current party
Good combat and experience system
Excellent story reminiscent of traditional x-men comics

Cons:
Mediocre graphics and sound
Must unlock certain characters as the game progresses

This game took me about 20 hours to complete. The level designs are long, but there are save points along the way where you can save and change your party if you want.Playing the game through a second time is an option not only because of the number of characters, but you can pour experience points into various skills, essentially changing the same character each time you play.

If you are a fan of the X-Men, you will love this game.It is well worth the price tag.

For the most part, the World War I scenario is well put together and is a fairly challenging game. One moves their way up the ranks as skill and daringness prevail. The graphics do not do Xbox justice, but are okay. My only real gripe is that there is only one view as you fly the airplane (as if you are just behind the plane, or as the game says, "flying machine"). I would rather have a cockpit view while flying... Incidentally, a realistic perspective is offered while manning various machine-guns - go figure. Overall the game deserves a chance to match skill and wits with the enemy!

Land of the Dead Review

I really enjoyed this game. The suspense and scares were plentiful, and it challenged me as a gamer.

I've been a long-time fan of zombie films and survival horror games--since the original Resident Evil on the Playstation--and feel that this game comes as close to putting one into the role of a Romero hero as any game has done thus far. The enemies are relentless, the ammo supply is just barely adequate, and the music chills the spine. And the story is engaging and interesting--a worthy prequel to the Land Of The Dead film.

This game has been unfairly maligned. If you like zombie films, and survival horror games, you owe it to yourself to check out this under-appreciated masterpiece.

Silent Hill 4 The Room Review

Silent Hill 4 The Room
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Silent Hill 4: The Room is the most unusual entry in a most unusual video game franchise. While earlier installments in the series have focused on stories designed to evoke spine-chilling horror, this fourth chapter in the saga causes much deeper feelings of anxiety and unease. I remember being more traditionally scared playing Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, but the underlying, more psychological sensation of existential dread I felt playing this game was something altogether new.

The Silent Hill games have shown a narrative progression by which the nature of the town is expanded upon in each game. In the first two games, your character went to Silent Hill and had his horrific adventure. In the third, Silent Hill itself "came to" the main character of Heather, who merely wanted to have a nice day at the mall. In Silent Hill 4, the town has now invaded your last refuge of security, your home.

You play Henry Townshend, who lives alone in a small apartment in the bustling town of South Ashfield, half a day's drive from Silent Hill. After suffering from inexplicable nightmares, Harry awakens to find that his apartment door has been chained and padlocked shut from the INSIDE. He can't open his windows, and no one, even people standing directly outside his front door, can hear him when he pounds on the door and cries for help.

The game expertly evokes the desperate confusion and lurking fear you would feel if you simply couldn't get out of your house. The strangeness of Henry's situation is underscored by the fact that, tantalizingly, he can see the real world right outside his window, with cars and pedestrians zipping by on a street only fifty yards away. Neighbors in the apartment building opposite his can be seen going about their business (one guy, amusingly, is playing air guitar). The banality of day to day life takes on a whole new meaning when one person is suddenly set apart from it by horrific circumstances he can't understand or control. The next time you're taking a walk down the block, imagine if something terrifyingly Silent Hill-ish was happening to someone in the very house you're walking past, and you're safe outside with no way of knowing. The whole character of the neighborhood will change. That's the kind of thing the Silent Hill series does so well: conveying the deep terror that can result when what is normal and commonplace suddenly and without warning goes all WRONG.

The action begins when Henry discovers that a large hole has emerged in his bathroom wall. As it's the only way out, he must crawl through it, and doing so, finds himself in the decaying, blood-spattered environments of Silent Hill with which the series' fans have become so familiar. But this game offers alarming differences. Some of the creatures that menace you -- like the ghosts that look more like floating paralyzed corpses -- can't be killed, and others -- like the two-headed babies that walk on adult arms -- are so bizarre they beggar imagination. You're also limited in what you can carry, and the only place you can save your game is in your apartment, a safe haven you can return to through holes in walls spread throughout the levels. But even that safe haven isn't safe for long.

In earlier games, the horror, while nightmarish, was still rooted in a sense of realism that, in turn, created realistic horror. You'd walk down dark corridors or misty deserted streets armed with a flashlight and your weapon. But here, the environments are more outrageously surreal, as if you're literally wandering through a bad dream. Spiral staircases seem to float in thin air. A enormous woman's face peers at you from a hospital wall. Living tendrils of no discernible biology dangle upwards from the floor to bar your way. Wheelchairs zoom down corridors by themselves, as if it were a freeway for paraplegic ghosts. It's as if the game designers just decided to let Salvador Dali loose with 3D rendering software and instructions that he was to exercise no restraint at all in coming up with ways to freak people out.

Sometimes it gets a little TOO weird. At times I found myself less frightened by this game than morbidly intrigued; I was actually interested in getting to certain rooms just to see what kind of crazy thing I'd encounter next. In that sense, I'd have to say the earlier games work a little better as pure, edge of your seat, bloodcurdling horror. But Silent Hill 4 still does a bang-up job of generating an entirely different kind of fear, one that doesn't so much leap out at you from the dark as crawl deep into the back of your mind and lurk there.

I leave you with two pieces of advice. One: if you're new to the series, don't start here, start with 2 and 3. Two: don't take the doll.

First of all to John. EA usually uses the previous years Heisman trophy winner or one of the top players on the cover. Since Leinert stayed in school they used Desmond Howard. But if you look at the past game covers you had Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald, Joey Harrington. Also do not listen to the guy complaning about the controls and camera cuts. You have the option to turn off the cameras that do the close-ups you. There are also two settings for the controllers, classic and the default.
So far I have found the game extremely enjoyable and like how it plays. Although, you can tell that EA did not put their best effort into the XBox version since the 360 is now out but it is still fun.

Heroes of the Pacific Review

Heroes of the Pacific
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been waiting a long time for a WW2-based aerial combat game. Rather, I've been waiting a long time for a REALISTIC one. Many of these purported WW2 games go the fantasy route and have Mustangs and Corsairs armed with lasers and other such nonsense. This one is right on the money, with period-accurate weaponry and flight characteristics.

In the campaign mode, you play the role of Lt. William Crowe, USN. You are in flight training during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and proceed to fight your way through all the famous campaigns and battles of the Pacific war, including Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, the defense of Wake Island, the Marianas, the Philippines, Leyte Gulf, Midway, and Iwo Jima. You are able to fly a variety of aircraft, from nimble fighters such as the Hellcat, Corsair, p-38 Lightning, as well as dive bombers like the SBD Dauntless and torpedo bombers like the Devastator.

The gameplay is very fun, although at easy levels the enemy AI is very, very stupid. Enemies will fly as though they just graduated from flight school (which, in a historical context, was pretty close to the truth after Midway) and are easy to shoot down. There's quite a learning curve involved for those who are used to combat flight sims which are more jet-and-guided-missle oriented, since you have to line your enemy up and lead them with your machine guns or cannon. However, once this is learned, combat becomes easier and more fun.

As you advance through the missions, you unlock various airplanes which can be used once the game has been completed on any difficulty level. It's fun to fly as a Zero or even a German Me-262 sometimes! This isn't a highly realistic simulator, however - you basically have unlimited fuel and ammunition, and some things which would normally cause you to crash (like ramming another plane) simply cause damage. However, none of that detracts from the fun factor of this game, which is very high.

In addition, I was very impressed with the ship models used for the game, as well as the realistic-looking landmasses when attacking islands. Iwo Jima really looks like Iwo Jima, with Mount Suribachi at one end, and Wake Island and Pearl Harbor is accurately modeled as well. The Japanese carriers look just like the real carriers did, and aren't just generic representations. The carrier you fly off of in most missions is the USS Enterprise (CV-6) and it too, is accurately modeled, even if it is sometimes inaccurately called the Saratoga.

In summary, this is a very, very entertaining game with good replay value and I highly recommend it.

X-Men Legends II Rise of the Apocalypse Review

X-Men Legends II Rise of the Apocalypse
Average Reviews:

X-Men 2 takes everything the first one did wrong and either fixes or scraps it, and then takes everything the first one did right and makes it better! Now, I'm a huge fan of the first one, so I didn't really think there was much wrong with it, but X-Men 2 is so much better!

The action is very intense and fast-paced, and I also love the customization you can put into your heroes (or villains). This could have been the game's only flaw--you level up so often it becomes a distraction from the action. However the designers handle this by giving you the option of automating level-ups and power allocations, so if micro-management isn't your thing, feel free to just slug it out.

There are a great mix of characters to choose from, although in my opinion there is some imbalance to some of them, such as Scarlet Witch who has NO melee capabilities to speak of, and no way to develop them, or Nightcrawler, who while a cool character is very energy dependant but very slow to regenerate said energy. These are minor quibbles, however.Chances are you'll find a few favorites and stick with them. This is rewarded in fact, because if you switch characters too often, they won't level up very fast and you will doubtless find yourself outclassed at a key moment (unless you spend some time training them up in the Danger Room).

Another nice feature is the unlockable characters.Xavier, Deadpool, and best yet--the uber-hero IRON MAN (why uber, you ask?He has the best elements of all the characters--flying, tanking, melee, and blasting)!!!The PC version contains a couple of additional characters--Sabretooth and Pyro, however these are basically just re-skinned versions of Wolvering and Sunfire.I would recommend sticking with the console versions since the PC version is said to be buggy and controls are a little more difficult. The X-Box version has the cleanest graphics (naturally).

The single-player campaign is a bit short--probably about 25-30 hours to complete, but the replayability factor is huge. You'll want to hurry up and finish the game just so you can go back and replay it with a different set of characters. Also, the multiplayer is a nice touch to increase replayability, with a 4-person online co-op mode.

Overall, this a a fantastic game, and well worth the money for anyone who enjoys fast-paced action, RPG elements, and Marvel.

I like this game because it's a multiplayer ACTION game for the Wii, not just bowling or wario type minigames. The graphics are good, four player is fun.You can join in at any time which is nice.Really fun to play with other people - a great parent-child game.Kind of like a more action-oriented version of XMen Legends or Marvel Ultimate Alliance.A good, fun action game - not too deep, but definitely a good time.
