4.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a 24-year-old fan of all things musical, including the High School Musical movies. I previously purchased the original High School Musical Sing It for Wii (the one with music from the first and second movies) and was disappointed by the lame graphics and difficult menus... but I still couldn't resist this game when I saw it.

This game is definitely an improvement over the last one! (I plan on ditching my old game completely.) You get to sing along to the actual footage from the movies, and I like the menus much better. All in all I find it to be more user-friendly than the past game, and it has different levels for singing (Easy, Normal, Hard), which is great for beginners. It also allows you to choose which character part you wish to sing by name, rather than having to guess which characters are "Part 1" and "Part 2" in the old game. I thoroughly enjoy this, and went through at least half the songs the first time I played it.

I gave it four stars because I would really like to see an opportunity to download more songs. Wii is a great platform for party/get-together games, and a good karaoke game utilizing the Wii connectivity feature to stream or download songs would be a great thing. Also, I would like to see wireless microphones, because I feel like there's an audio delay between what I see on my HDTV and what I sing... if it had a calibration feature like Guitar Hero, that would improve it tremendously in terms of accuracy.

I may be an "older" fan of the Disney HSM franchise, but I think this would be really fun for kids too, especially if you put it on level "Easy" and just let them rock out!

I bought this game for my daughter for christmas, she loves the game. She loves to customize the characters, and sing. What amazes me is that the company spent so much time with the customization of character and venue, but forgot the music part.I bought the game for the wii, I was told that you could download new music, but i just found out the wii version does not have that option. It cost more, but doesn't have that option. Surprise Surprise..It's only been a few days and my daughter already wants new songs to sing to, and I just found out I spent 50 dollars for a game that i can't add new music too.If i had known that I wouldn't have bought it.In a couple weeks that game will end up collecting dust, because everyone is tired of the same song over and over again. I'd like to know if the company is going to make a patch to fix this problem...

I bought this for my daughter and she loves singing High School Musical, Hannah Montana, and Camp Rock. So this was perfect for her. I was really impressed with how Disney put this product together. Normally on Karaoke, you get some fake singer and a generic picture of 2 couples riding a horse on a beach. Not this one. You not only get the actual song, but you also get clips directly from the movie or a clip from the actual concert. The video also looks great on screen. They are DVD quality. Also fun was the duet mode, but you need 2 mics for it.

Now the bad part. They do have a section for trying to teach you how to sing, but it is not done very well. It would have been good if you could pick a song and have them go over it slowly. You do not have control as to what key the song is played in or much control over the mic settings.

However, even though the songs are fast and pretty difficult to sing, my daughter had a blast singing to them.

With the increase in music based games (Rockband, Guitar Hero) I didn't really think this would have much to offer, considering it is only singing, but I was wrong. I found the game to be highly entertaining. The song list is pretty decent and at the time of its release there were 151 downloadable songs. I suggest if you do get it buy an additional microphone (Rockband and Guitar Hero mics work) as it will allow you to play against another person, or groups of two against groups of two in duets battle. For people in my family who care less about videogames and having not only played it, but enjoyed it, it tells you the game is pretty entertaining. If you are a fan of karaoke, singing in the shower or while driving, this game will rock your socks off. It's pure simple fun for all ages. I highly recommend it as a party game or solo. Worth every cent.

Lips Number One Hits Bundle Review

Lips Number One Hits Bundle

While the original "Lips" game had several issues, they were forgivable since it was the first game in the series; however, like the previous reviewer I am pretty unhappy about the 2nd installment of this franchise.I just want to make a couple things clear for anyone who has not yet purchased this game, especially if you already own the first game.

1. Despite being a "4-Player" game, only 2 people can sing - So don't buy the game thinking that 4 people can sing. The problem if you own the original Lips is that you already have 2 wireless mics and Microsoft doesn't currently offer a standalone version of this game. You need to pay a premium price for the bundle, only to have an extra mic that you can't even use.

2. If you own the original Lips and want to sing songs from the original game, you need to switch discs even if you have the original game installed on your hard drive. Then after you're done with that song, you have to reinsert the Lips:NOH disc.If you want to sing 2 songs consecutively from the original Lips game, you would still need to reinsert Lips:NOH and the insert Lips again! Not only this, but sometimes the game will freeze during the whole process.

3.As of 10/30/2009 most of the downloaded songs from the original games are now working, but there are a couple songs that do not work.

Overall this game is a slight improvement on the original, but if you own the original you may want to wait until Microsoft works out some of the kinks and/or until the release a standalone version, because you won't be able to use the extra mic and this game is definitely not worth $60.

There are just so many great music games out there. While you have the guitar standards that are based on rhythm like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and those that make you step to the beat of the music like Dance Dance Revolution, there is just the feeling of games that you have to sing your way to the top. With lackluster games like American Idol and Disney's Sing It!, just appeal to tweens and teeny-boppers wannabes alike, there just doesn't feel like there is a universal appeal to sing-a-long games alike. For those who've played Singstar so much from the PS2 and Playstation 3, the Xbox 360 has taken that notion to a whole new level that makes it more than just meets the eye.

Lips for the Xbox 360 takes in the appeal of what the Singstar! series had for the PS2, and brings in the appeal as a first for Xbox 360 players. While the game might seem like a gimmick, there actually is surprisingly more. You have the usuals like Singstar, from singing along to over 40 tracks that appeal from recent favorites like Duffy's Mercy and the extremely overexposed artist of 2008 Rihanna with Umbrella, to classics like The Jackson 5's ABC, and Everything She Does Is Magic by The Police. You also have the ability to download videos from the Xbox Live marketplace to add on to the fun. While the graphics and sound might feel like it is similar to Singstar!, as well as the concept of the downloadable content, what makes this unique to the gameplay is Lips secret weapon.

What makes the gameplay more unique is that you can plug in your MP3 player or Ipod, and connect it to the 360, and sing along to your favorite songs off their personal MP3 Players in the game as well. This feature makes the game a whole lot more exciting and addictive to the gameplay for parties everywhere. Sadly, there is one big disadvantage to the MP3 playback. The only music downloads that are compatable, are ones that are MP3 DRM-Free capable. Which is the only problem, is that if you download music off of sites that use other music files in Windows Media Audio or WMA, they will not be playable on the game. That is sadly, the only major flaw in the game. Also, I was hoping that with the price of the Singstar! games for PS2 and Playstation 3, I really thought it would also be a bit less expensive.

All in all though, Lips for the Xbox 360 brings in the singing along concept well for those who want to have a great time listening to their favorite songs. If you've gotten pretty tired of Singstar!, or if you don't own a Playstation 2, or PS3, than this would be a fantastic buy for music lovers and 360 gamers all around the world. I really hope they make this concept for more music games like this soon. At around $65, you really get a great game, that doesn't feel like it is a gimmick.
