This Logitech kit is difficult to evaluate; one of the most puzzling products I've reviewed.Put simply, it's a significantly more adjustable replacement of the stock GHWT kit for 3x the price, which happens to be slightly less than the price of the Ion Drum Rocker.

The Ion Drum Rocker is more adjustable, quieter, explicitly supports RB, supports 3rd party pedals, ships with an additional pad (which makes playing RB easier) and a higher quality metal bass pedal for just $20 more.Granted, the Logitech kit doesn't suffer from some of the construction issues the Ion does (the Logitech kit is a one-piece, collapsible set - it's main advantage) although with the Ion you just get so much more.

Please have a read of my impressions below and comment if you think there's something I could be missing.As it stands, I'm just puzzled as to how Logitech could release this product at this price.If it were say, half the price then it would be a no-brainer.Sure it wouldn't be as feature-rich as the Ion though at half the price, understandably so.

The Good:

- Solid, one-piece construction means compact folding and storage is possible.
- Adjustable: orientation, height and tilt of cymbals, same for the pads.Height of the set is also adjustable.
- Pads are quieter than the stock RB set.Same muted sound as the GHWT set, which I prefer to the higher-pitched hit of the RB pads.
- Adjustability requires no tools.
- Rock Band compatible!Although to be expected given that the stock GHWT drums are as well.

The Not So Good:

- The cost is 5-10 times more expensive than the stock RB2 drums and 3x more expensive than the GHWT drums.If it came with a real pedal than I could forgive a big chunk of this as the after-market pedals are upwards of $100.
- Questionable support for 3rd party pedals.This is important because the included pedal is a no go for at least two reasons: GH logo on the pedal means you cannot play in bare feet or socks.The pedal has very little tension and because it's plastic, it slides around the floor.
- Without the big, rubbery GHWT-style cymbals to absorb the hits, they're really loud as they transfer the force of the hit through the structure of the set.
- It can get crowded around the control unit, if you find yourself having to adjust things.Really just a problem during initial setup, though if you setup and teardown frequently you'll have to deal with it.
- With all that adjustability you might find yourself having to tighten things every so often.Small price to pay, though it is there.Again, really just a problem during initial setup, though if you setup and teardown frequently you'll have to deal with it.
- The D-pad on the control unit feels really, really flimsy as though it could break or pop out at any moment.Not a big deal since you can use the drums themselves in place of the D-pad.Still though, for the price this should feel solid.

I've been an avid (yet talentless) game drummer since Rock Band was released in late 2007 all the way through GHWT and RB2.To give you an idea of my exposure and time with the RB/RB2/GHWT stock drums, let's say that I've completed 100% of every song in each of those games on Hard and about 50% on Expert.I've also owned the Omega and Rock Pedal custom pedals (and broken the stock RB pedal a few times).So, plenty of hours with all 3 kits.When I had the opportunity to get my hands on the Logitech set for the 360 via Vine, I jumped at the chance.

I own only RB2 and RB:Beatles at the moment, having sold GHWT long ago.The GHWT and RB sets are cross-compatible so I figured this set should work with RB and good news: it works perfectly! I'm confused why the packaging is Guitar Hero-branded.There's a massive logo on the box (you could easily confuse with an official GHWT peripheral) and a matching GH logo sketched in to the pedal (more on that later).Why they wouldn't list RB2 compatibility is strange; likely some branding agreement with Activision.Anyway...

The first thing you'll notice is how compact the set is.It arrives in a box 6" x 25" x 31".It's thinner but wider than the RB2 set when folded down, and the one-piece construction means it isn't a clumsy pile of disconnected plastic behind the couch.It folds down (with effort - there's a lot of stuff to loosen) into a less-than-6" unit that you can slide right under the couch.Well, my couch at least ;)

Setup was a snap.It's all one piece so there was no fumbling around for spare parts.Extend the legs, rotate the base to the front, plug in the cymbals and you're good to go.The whole thing took about 10 minutes and most of that was getting it out of the packaging.This is where the Logitech kit shines in comparison to the Ion.

The construction of the pads is more reminiscent of the GHWT drums than the RB drums.The bolts around the pads give it a solid, well-built feel, identical in appearance to the Ion pads.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the cymbals.The cymbals seem cheap and plastic-y in comparison to the stock GHWT kit.Perhaps I'll end up forgiving this since the GHWT cymbals were a nightmare, both in reliability and sensitivity.

Nice slow warmup to get a feel for the set.About 30 seconds in to the song, I realized there was no way I could finish without reordering the pads which are by default setup for GHWT.While paused, I unplugged all of the pads from the control unit and removed them from the bar (the silver bar shown in the product image).I did all of this in about 30 seconds and was right back in to the song.Score one for quick adjustability of the set.

Towards the end of the song, I noticed two things and they were both about the pedal:

1) Where the heck was it and why is my leg practically outstretched?
2) Why does my foot hurt?

Coming from any of the custom drum pedals, there's just no comparison to the stock pedals.The pedal for the Logitech set is no exception.There's almost no tension (although this is adjustable, it doesn't matter) and with such a plastic-y feel, it's not surprising that it slides around on the carpet.

The worst part about the pedal though, that makes it inferior to even the stock GHWT or RB pedals is the "Guitar Hero" logo imprint.Unless you've comfortably walked over a bed of nails or hot coals, there's no way you can play in bare feet or with socks on.Had to put on shoes to play, which was a little strange.I've watched a LOT of expert FC vids on Youtube and nobody drums with shoes on.Why should we expect less from this expensive set?

By the end of the song, the blue pad had rotated 45 degrees to the left although I didn't stop to fix it, having too much fun.Just need a bit more tightening underneath.

Before starting, I removed the orange cymbal as it just gets in the way since the RB charts only have 4 notes.

Much more action on the yellow cymbal in this song.About 30 seconds in I was missing the yellow cymbal completely as it had rotated to the left and was pointing away from me; same problem I just fixed with the blue pad - when you've tightened them, keep going because it's not as much as you think.

After tightening the yellow cymbal, the hits on the cymbal became noticeably louder.I believe this is because the force of my hits was being dissipated by the weak connection to the frame.Now that I had tightened it, it sounds like the whole set is making noise when I hit.Loosened the grip on the main bar and yep - definitely more quiet.

I also noticed that my accuracy went down and I wasn't sure why.After playing these games for so long, things can just "feel" off and something felt off - reminded me of the feeling I got when the first two stock GHWT kits I had shipped with sensitivity issues in the cymbals.I went into the Drum Trainer Freestyle mode and didn't notice anything funky, so back to the game.

By this point, I'm comfortable with the set in spite of the low quality pedal (p.s. it doesn't work with the Rock Pedal custom pedal, not that I expected it to).I've got the pads and yellow cymbal right where I want it and I don't even need to wear headphones to drown the drum noise (like I do with the RB drums).

The big question - is it worth it?

As of this writing, the Ion kit is just about $20 more.As I mentioned in the summary, you just get so much more with the Ion I can't see why anyone would consider this set.

Strangely enough, if there's one thing this set did is make me realize I should definitely pick up the Ion set.It's so much more fun with the right drums in the right orientation!

This guitar is great and works on both GH II/III as well as on Rock Band.The strum is reliable, though loud, and the frets are responsive.Other nice features are that it is black, can be customized with faceplates, and is wireless.Two AA batteries last a good while, maybe 20-40 hours.

The sole downside is that the edge of the guitar where your lower arm may rest is not really comfortable, so your skin may feel a bit chafed after extended play.Still recommended over anything else, especially that Rock Band guitar, which doesn't even work on Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero Van Halen Review

(More customer reviews)I got the freebie copy of GH:VH from the GH5 promo.GH:VH uses the GH: Metallica engine - it has expert-plus drums and better star power indicators, but it doesn't have the easy group play drop-in/drop-out stuff of GH5 or the instrument challenges that make that game a little more interesting.

Positives: If you like classic David Lee Roth Van Halen (no Van Hagar here) you'll love it. You'll also dig it if you like playing hard guitar parts.It's difficult without being annoying - a lot of hard guitar songs are mostly endless strings of HOPOs and alt-strums. These are more interesting, and with a bunch of fun slide parts.

Negatives:
1) For most of the game you're "Van Halen in 2008." You too can be middle-aged guys reliving their youth! Not exactly my rock-n-roll fantasy. And yes, the game has Eddie's son Wolfgang on bass. I don't want to pick on him, but even his videogame avatar looks a little embarrassed to be there. Eventually you unlock classic VH...with Wolfgang sort of foolishly wearing Michael Anthony's sleeveless dice tee from 1984. O the humanity. Still, that was Eddies's call and not Activision's fault.

2) The cut scenes, venues and characterization are pretty thin. Except for one classic Van Halen club, the venues are all generic.

3) The non-Van Halen set list. I know it's personal taste. Maybe you love it, that's cool. But apart from a handful of period-appropriate songs (Foreigner, Deep Purple, The Clash), the non-VH songs are a grab bag of generic modern rock (Blink-182, Yellowcard, the ubiquitous Foo Fighters) and stuff that's already been released on Rock Band (Painkiller; Sick, Sick, Sick; Master Exploder; the egregious Pretty Fly for a White Guy). It feels like a bunch of songs that Activision had lying around because they didn't make the cut for GH5.

One thing I liked about GH: Metallica was that the non-Metallica tracks were songs the band liked, and songs that influenced or were influenced by Metallica. There was some intelligence behind the setlist and the whole game hung together. It wouldn't have been too hard to do this with GH:VH - mix more cheezeball 70's guitar rock (Nugent, Foghat, Alice Cooper, Styx), some Guitar God tracks (Jimi, Clapton, Santana), and some GH Rocks the 80's songs (Ratt, Journey, Autograph). Stuff that VH listened to, stuff that was inspired by VH, stuff that was on the radio when VH was big. Not too hard. But instead we get a set list assembled by the marketing staff. Meh.

GH: VH feels like GH: Metallica done on the cheap. Like halfway through development Activision realized this should have been a track pack and not a standalone game, but by then it was too late so they just half-assed it to get it out the door. Though my complaints melt away when I fake-play the opening chords of "Unchained."Three stars if you like Van Halen and don't care about money ($50 for 45 songs is painful).One star otherwise - if Van Halen isn't your thing, just stay away.

The guitar itself works great and the game is a blast.My only complaint it that I have to sit closer to the TV then I would like because of the cord length.They really need a wireless version of the Guitar.My kids are always running around the room and trip over the cable as well.That said, it's still a great guitar for the game.

Guitar Hero Smash Hits Review

(More customer reviews)For those who are skeptical because you have played these songs before need to know that the gameplay is new for all songs. In career, you only need to play a select number of songs to unlock the next section, so at first I was only playing songs from the older games that I haven't played in a long time and skipping songs that are available on current games such as Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2. To my surprise when I did finally play those songs that the fingerings for guitar/bass are different. They didn't just take the current guitar gameplay and plop it into this game. Instead, they have updated the gameplay to not only have different fingerings (that in my opinion are mostly a vast improvement over the previous versions of these songs) but they also incorporate the newest styles of gameplay, such as three string chords & the three string hammer-on chords that we saw with the latest versions of guitar rhythm games.It makes all of these previously released songs fresh, new, and fun to play.Also, all the original artists are here, so all the cover songs from past games now have the original artists.

Being able to play drums and sing was enough to make me want to get this previously released material, but having new guitar fingerings for all these songs was a bonus I didn't expect. You also get all the online options from the currently released rhythm games.

I highly recommend this.

Rock Band Wireless Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)Let me first off say that I bought this wireless Strat because I was hoping that it would work with Rock Band and Guitar Hero.It does not work with Guitar Hero.That being said the guitar seems to be a little more solid than the one that came with the game.A lot of people seem to like the Guitar Hero Les Paul better.However, I really play guitar, and I can honestly say that this one feels more like the real thing.The buttons allow sliding chords, the buttons feel more like frets than buttons, and overall it seems more second nature when playing.

Ultimately, this is a purchase for those who need freedom from the usb hub and 10 foot cable.As for Guitar Hero, well their taking sides has forced me as a consumer to choose sides.I am sticking with Rock Band.

Xbox 360 Rock Band Wireless Fender Wooden Stratocaster Replica Review

(More customer reviews)When Mad Catz announced the $300 Fender guitar replica made many question how out-of-hand peripheral costs were getting, especially with the music genre.If you are a Rock Band 2 enthusiast, with all the DLC offered by Harmonix on XBOX Live, tons of peripherals laying around, and those of you that have the ION Drum set sitting in your game room, you will want (and must) have this.

Being a guitar player for over a decade, I must say this makes playing that much more fun for me personally.Those individuals that have only played this game with the "kit" included instruments, be it Rock Band or Guitar Hero, may hate this item.This guitar is the full size and full weight of my a Fender Stratocaster, and feels natural to play with my background.Compared to the plastic completion, this thing is huge, and may effect you "shredders" out there.This guitar is not as accurate during faster parts of most songs (do to real fret spacing), I must say that I don't mind missing notes when playing with this.The only thing that is not "real Fender" on this guitar is the plastic fret board, but that is not a negative thing, and blends nicely with this accessory.

This guitar, combined with the overdrive pedal, give a new aspect of playability that renews any avid player of the Rock Band series continued interest.Before you buy however, you have to ask yourself do you prefer the Rock Band controller button layout (flat) or the Guitar Hero controller button (raised) layout.If you prefer the Guitar Hero style, this controller is not for you, and will not change your mind and it may actually make you hate it more.The fret buttons are in the real fret locations, so you will have to adapt to stretching your fingers hit all the keys, which makes it very difficult to play during faster parts.

Pros:
* All natural wood body and neck made by the Fender factory itself
* Real metal tuners, connection port (for use of the overdrive pedal), and whammy bar
* Full size and weight (just over 7 lbs.)
* 2.5 million cycle strumming switches
* Start and Select buttons hidden as volume knobs on the guitar
* Whammy bar hangs in a traditional place
* Works amazing with the Overdrive Pedal accessory
* Great for traditional guitarist that want to transfer and play music genre games

Cons:
* Hard to move fast between buttons for speed accuracy do to the real spacing of the frets
* Strum bar is louder, clicks, and does more wear-n-tear on the fingers
* Weight (for those not used to it) can be overwhelming, especially for those long play sessions
* No calibration mechanism on the guitar
* Three AA batteries to use (still no XBOX rechargeable battery pack use)
* Easy to hit Start and Select knob-buttons when using whammy bar.

Final Thoughts:

I couldn't find a clear answer before buying it to whether or not my rock band guitar and drums would work with it. Thus, the point of this review is to let you know that YES they will work. You don't have to buy a whole new set of equipment. This isn't meant to discourage you from buying them if that's what you want. I'm just letting you know you don't have to if you own the first generation or Rock Band equipment. I, personally, just don't have the space to house two drums sets. I wouldn't have bought the game if the controllers weren't compatible for that reason. My only small complaint is that some of the songs on Rockband 2 and GH WT overlap but there's enough songs that don't (Hotel California and Purple Haze) that it's worth buying both.

(More customer reviews)I love Rock Band (RB) and play it with my friends often. We're very happy with MadCatz wireless 2-strum bass, but haven't found a nice upgrade replacement for the guitar. With an entry price of $200 and no chance to test it out in a store (and no reviews), I took a chance & pulled the trigger on this beaut.

First, it's a gorgeous, balanced and a substantial piece of equipment.I was wary not to dent the walls or my friends while walking around with it.The strum bar is perfect! (no noise, quick spring-back)I also love the hidden and easy location of hitting the back button with your strum hand (something RB guitars have never done well), as well as the hidden start button below the whammy bar.It's not full-size, but is substantially larger than the regular plastic guitars that come with Guitar Hero (GH).In fact, I fell in love with everything about this guitar... except the actual fret buttons.

The fret buttons are the exact same size as those that come on standard GH guitars, but they're further up, so your fingers are at more of an angle to hit them. The wood fret board is much wider/larger than the plastic versions, so it's also much harder to reach around to connect with the actual buttons. This is where RB buttons are much easer to hit, though I personally prefer the protruding GH buttons in general, for this piece, they don't work. In fact, several times, without removing my finger from the buttons, it would not register a chord depending on which part of the button was being pressed. Instead of my scores getting better over time, they were always lower. It may be something others can learn to adapt to, but it was a deal-breaker for me (after 7 hours experience) and I have to send it back. My friends had the same problem - we all loved the look, feel, strum & design of this guitar, but the fret buttons failed us.

So, what could have been so wonderful (a 5-star love affair), is being sent back (down to 3-stars). I'll patiently wait for the next upgrade installment (deep purple color, please!) and continue to play on my multitude of puny plastic toy guitars until then.[For background as we all have personal preferences, my current favorite controller is the GH-3 guitar (got it with Aerosmith). The RB standard controllers are good for bass, but their strum bar & back button locations don't compare. I played GH 5 & RB Beatles while testing this controller.]

Guitar Hero Metallica Review

(More customer reviews)To put it simply, this game rocks.Since I picked it up the other day, I've played it almost non-stop and finished most songs on every instrument.I have work to do.I don't need another addiction. :)

Let's break things down:

Gameplay:
Gameplay is pretty much unchanged from World Tour except you can now do double bass drumming and the Career mode progression has changed quite a bit.As in other Guitar Hero games, when you beat a song you get a rating of up to 5 stars depending upon your performance.Like Rock Band and unlike previous Guitar Hero games, it is possible to get less than 3 stars, but as in Rock Band it is unlikely.To progress from one tier to the next you simply have to get a total number of stars on previous songs.This system makes it very easy to "beat" the game since the star requirements are very low and the ratings from all previous tiers, not just the current one, count.So if you want to progress to tier 7 and are having trouble with tier 6 songs, you can just go back and finish whatever tier 2 or tier 3 songs you didn't finish.Since the star rating requirements are so low, I managed to "beat" the game only completing about 40% of the songs (though I went back to finish the others).Another thing that makes the game easy to beat is the fact that the only required songs are very easy. You have to beat the first two songs, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "The Unforgiven", and you have to beat the last song, "The Thing That Should Not Be".They're three of the easiest songs in the game, and since you only need to beat 40% or so of the songs to beat the game, you can just do the easiest 40%.So, beating the game is no real challenge, although beating every song is.
Also, there are no longer setlists, so for each tier, you can beat the songs in any order and even skip some of them.

Graphics/cutscenes:
Graphically, it's the best Guitar Hero game yet, although it's still inferior to the versions available on other systems.You'll see a lot fewer awkward animation moments than in previous Guitar Hero games.Remember the stiff drummer (a robot, maybe?) or the hideously ugly singer from GHIII?They're fortunately gone.
Some have complained about the storyline "cutscenes" being too cartoony, but I'd say it's less so than other Guitar Hero games.Still, the Ice Cave (the last venue) felt kind of out-of-place.The "storyline" definitely belongs in quotes as there is not much of a story, nothing worth mentioning at least.

Interface:
The interface is similar to World Tour, but it's a little different.The songs are now listed like in Guitar Hero III, so it's easier to browse.Also, taking a cue from Rock Band, the game now lets you know during the song what star rating your current score will net you.It presents this as a small number that is hard to read instead of a sequence of stars like in Rock Band, so the system is flawed.However, it's still a fairly nice addition.Scores, however, are a bit problematic.In career mode, scores are no longer saved, only star ratings.This seemed kind of pointless to me, although at the end of a song, it does let you know if you set a new high score even if they won't tell you what your old scores are.Top scores are saved for Quickplay however, although you'll have to dig around through the menus to find them.

Characters/guitars:
Character/guitar customization is just like in World Tour except there are some new bonus characters (Kind Diamond is the only one I recall, but I think there's more).
As stated in my World Tour review, character creation is kind of mediocre, but the guitar customization is nice.

Difficulty:
Finally, they've found the sweet spot in terms of difficulty.It's easy to "beat" the game, but it's difficult to beat every song.

Guitar Difficulty: Basically, I like playing songs that I can beat but keep me on edge (stuff like tier 7 of Guitar Hero III).This game is packed with these kind of songs.Guitar Hero games usually go from very easy to very hard as you progress through the tiers.This game trims away the songs from both ends.That is, there are not very many easy songs, but there are no ridiculous ones either.Most of the early songs feel like tier 5 or so in Guitar Hero III and the later songs feel like tier 7 or the easier songs of tier 8. Slayer's "War Ensemble", the only song I have left to beat on Expert, is the hardest song on guitar.It's one of those songs that I've found hard to pass, but not so hard that I feel like I'll never pass it.Other songs like "Dyers Eve" and "Hit the Lights" are somewhere around "Cliffs of Dover" or "Cult of Personality" in terms of difficulty.I failed a few sightreads, but was able to beat everything except "War Ensemble" in just a few tries.So there's nothing as evil as "Jordan" or "Through the Fire and Flames", but there are quite a few "Hangar 18"'s and "Free Bird"'s in the game.One thing I did notice, however, is that there aren't as many 3-note chords as before (although I do recall one 4-note chord).

Bass Difficulty:
I'd say this is the hardest game yet for bass.Had trouble with "B.Y.O.B"?Well, just try and give "Dyers Eve" or "Fight Fire with Fire" a shot.The open notes are back and in full force.Overall, the bass difficulty is not unreasonable just like guitar, but it's still very challenging.I haven't finished every song yet, but I haven't had too much trouble so far, so expect a challenge but nothing too over-the-top.

Drums Difficulty:
I haven't tried Expert+ yet (drums are the instrument I'm worst on).Like Bass, I haven't quite finished the Drum career yet, but I think it's a lot more challenging than World Tour.Unlike guitar and bass, a few of the songs are simply ridiculous (Dyers Eve, I'm looking at you) and I've failed a good number of my sightreads (first tries).Fortunately, they do include some easier songs, so you can still find plenty to do even if you can't beat everything.

Vocals Difficulty:
It's easier to get a 100% now, but the difficulty isn't too much different from World Tour.Maybe it's slightly easier on average, but there are a few songs which are simply painful (e.g. Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy", Mercyful Fate's "Evil").

Setlist:
I'm in love.This has to be the greatest Guitar Hero setlist yet.A few of the song choices from non-Metallica bands are a little iffy, but most are pretty good and the Metallica songs are killer.Even Metallica seems to know their early stuff is their best, so the biggest emphasis is on their 80's material (6 of 8 Puppets songs are included), although there are songs from every album including "S&M" and "Garage Inc."There are a few obvious omissions, e.g. "The Four Horsemen" and "The Call of Ktulu", but otherwise it's almost perfect.
Overall, the Black/Load songs and the non-Metallica songs are the easiest, the pre-Black songs are the hardest (with a few exceptions - "Seek & Destroy", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", and "The Thing That Should Not Be" are pretty easy), and the St. Anger/Death Magnetic songs are somewhere in between.Due to having to progress from easy to hard, one would expect to have to play their less exciting Black/Load songs before jumping into their good stuff.However, this is not fully true. For one, they seemed to have intentionally mixed up the eras a bit even if this means a few songs are slightly mistiered...although you are stuck playing quite a few non-Metallica songs in tiers 2 & 4 (on all instruments).Also, due to the low star rating requirements, you can play songs from the late tiers in just a short while.So don't worry.You'll be playing "Creeping Death" in no time.

Leftover complaint:
Like Guitar Hero III and World Tour, saving still takes an eternity on the PS2 version.

Drum compatibility:
I use the Rock Band drums.They work just fine.

Bottom line:
Don't hesitate in the least.If you're a Guitar Hero fan or a Metallica fan, this is an absolute must-buy.

Guitar Hero: Metallica is similar to Guitar Hero World Tour in that you play a full suite of instruments. When the game starts, you're the new band on the block with aspirations of opening for Metallica. The game goes back and forth between performances by Metallica and performances of songs that influenced Metallica by your band. The band was motion captured so you'll recognize their unique motions on screen and style of playing.
As you progress in the game, you'll start to unlock bonus features such as videos of old Metallica performances, backstage photos, and "Metallifacts," which enables different trivia to show up while a song is playing, similar to VH1's Pop-Up Video.
Metallica Recordings from Original Masters and More Via Download
Guitar Hero: Metallica features 49 songs in total, 28 Metallica songs, and 21 songs that are favorites of the band and have influenced them. The Metallica songs are sourced from original masters so you'll have the best audio quality available. You'll also be able play downloadable content from their latest album, Death Magnetic.
Game Difficulty Goes from One All The Way Up to Eleven
Metallica exhibit technical prowess while performing, and this game goes from Beginner all the way to Expert Plus difficulty. Hardcore gamers will not be disappointed. You'll have to play guitars, drums, and sing, and in the "Expert Plus" difficulty, you'll have to plug in a second bass pedal for double bass pedal drum work.
Real-Life Venues
As you go on tour, you'll be playing venues small and large, and you might recognize some that you've been to. Famous venues that played a part in Metallica's career such as The Stone and the Hammersmith Odeon are included in the game and have been duplicated with great detail.
Grab Your Friends and Play Together
Multiplayer is part of what made Guitar Hero such a hit and it is no different here. Gather your friends and family, and jam Metallica tunes together. The game also features Metallica-specific power ups for competitive multiplayer. For example, "Fade to Black" will black out your opponent's notes, and "Trapped Under Ice" will freeze their whammy bar.
Create Your Own Music
Those familiar with Guitar Hero World Tour will welcome back the Music Studio, where you can create new music and then upload and share them through the GHTunes service. The Music Studio in Guitar Hero: Metallica gives you Metallica specific tones such as Hetfields' ESP Truckster guitar, as well as Metallica drum sounds. Well, integrating the guide button with the d-pad was an incredibly stupid idea, but the strummer in particular was a huge improvement over anything on any controller before. It's about 25% longer than the strummers on other controllers, allowing you to strum closer to the neck, and the more grippable, rubbery texture gives you a lot more control during fast strumming. But, now that the problems with the detachable neck that were the downfall of the GH3 guitar have apparently been resolved, there are still more of the double-strumming issues that the GHWT controllers were known for. I noticed that my GH5 controller was registering double-strums occasionally right out of the box. Only very occasionally at first, but as time has gone on (I've had it for about three months now) it has been becoming more and more of a problem, to the point now where it is really wrecking my scores (and some research on the internet quickly revealed that the problem isn't with just mine, they usually begin developing serious double-strum problems after a few months.) It's really a shame, as at first this controller seemed like a real winner and had some chance of surpassing the GH2 Xplorer as the best all around controller until I learned (and experienced for myself) that these are just as disposable as the GH3 Les Pauls.
