Xbox 360 Air Cooler Review

I got this bad boy a couple of days ago and it works well for me.My elite is loud and thought this would quiet it down but i was wrong so i know have the fans running from inside the 360 and the 3 fans this cooler comes with.

The only thing you have to know is that its a manual fan cooler and you need to turn ON the fans and if you don't, then it just blocks the airflow to the 360 and cause it to overheat. The switch is below the power adapter on the right so you know where to reach to flip the switch.

The good thing is that it does not block anything else that would associate with the 360 like the power cable, wireless adapter and HDMI cable

Xbox 360 Intercooler TS - black Review

Xbox 360 Intercooler TS - black

I bought the white one and reviewed that but just adding this here for the black one for people who have had issues with the very loud fans.My original review:

So I bought this intercooler being very skeptical because of many complaints of the loud noise and because my previous experience with Nyko's original line of intercoolers nearly burned my house down because of poor design(leeching power from the Xbox360 console causing massive overheating/melting cords).

Anyways, to my surprise the design is actually quite good and the heat sensor works well enough, although you may have issues with the fan never turning off if your console is in a cabinet like mine(I had to cut out a vent directly where fan was blowing, fixed issue).

Now the problem is that the product is made in China and they just don't do a very good quality job by using parts that do not fit flush and not inserting any kind of insulation or such to dampen the noise from all the loose parts. The parts are not that loose, but these fans are actually quite strong and it seems to only have a full blast setting so all these tiny crevices are allowing a lot of rattling to occur inside the unit, also causing my xbox to shake which made me nervous.

For a simple cheap fix, I simply took a small screwdriver and opened the device(note: there are two longer screws in the middle so that should be remembered when reattaching the back plate). I originally wanted to put oil in the fans like a couple other people did but there is absolutely no way to do so without definitely voiding this device(even though you are technically voiding it by doing this but no one would know if you're careful^^).

After you remove the back plate, simply look around the device and stuff small folded up pieces of paper or something in between the spaces like where the fans are, also between the two outer layers of plastic(the case plastic). Obviously this doesn't look very good but you would be surprised by how much quieter the device is and how it doesn't shake the console anymore. It still makes more noise than a simple console fan should but this essentially dampened about 50% of the noise for me so now I can hardly hear it in my entertainment center which is all I wanted. Went from a noise level of a hand vacuum to maybe a loud laptap fan lol.

I strongly suggest this because of how much my console shook before until I put small(less than 1"x1") pieces of folded paper in it, obviously use common sense and dont stuff any around the wires and break the wires, don't impede the fans airflow, don't touch the circuit boards or overstuff the crevices so the unit gets warped. Hopefully this helps some people because I was about to return this insanely loud fan until I did this and it has worked very well now for the past week and doesn't seem to be any issues.

***NEW PROBLEM(unrelated to the fix above)***

Ok so a month and a half after I fixed my initial issues of the fan being outrageously loud(loose parts rattling), I am now having a new issue with this cooling fan.Nearly everytime I turn on my xbox now, once the fan kicks on after about 10 seconds...it begins making this insanely loud, very unnatural sound that is absolutely no doubt the fan hitting against something.I was almost sure it was the paper I put in before but I am almost positive that isn't the case.I tried testing the fan while it was still on the xbox but turned around and noticed the fans push forward when they kick on.While this probably won't mean much to most people, my fan was poorly put together and the plastic fan well wasn't properly aligned. For some odd reason this is only affecting one fan and is only sticking out in one of the fan wells.I tried scraping it down with a razor blade but I still get that very loud sound of the fan hitting the plastic walls.Strangely enough there is a very simple fix for this also(at least in my case).Once the noise begins it simply will not stop until you pull the power out.I did this from the back of the xbox where the fan is attached to the xbox. You have to pull it out fully for a second or two or else the noise will immediately resume but I just plug mine back in after a couple seconds. The fan works absolutely fine for any amount of time and the problem never returns until I try turning my xbox on again after leaving it off for a few hours. It's pretty annoying but the fan really does work absolutely fine and there's no rattling because of the paper.Still very odd and I wish someone would finally come out with a quality cooling fan!

Xbox 360 Elite Cooling Station Review

First Impression:Very nice.Comes well packaged, and the design is very elegant. It seems very sturdy, and the light is beautiful.Great first impression.

Usage:Worked really really well for a while.I'm sort of a freak when it comes to machines, I actually put a temperature probe in the XBox and had it read temperatures over 3 hours of gameplay. Now I understand small changes could be random, but the result was fairly impressive. The average temperature of the machine dropped over 10 degrees when I used the fan-stand.Very impressive indeed. However, it is (believe it or not) even louder than the Xbox's own fans, but a little WD-40 careful application and some silicon lubricant spray a few days later will fix that.

Problem:Even with the lubrication, after some time, I noticed the noise level dropped.Sure enough, one of the fans had stopped working. Not a big deal, as you can easily replace the fan (it's a 6mm standard fan, the same type that goes in some computer cases). But still, that diminishes the quality of the product, because you shouldn't HAVE to replace the fans(until at least a couple of years later with heavy usage). You should also make sure you dust the fans every now and then. And NEVER put the stand on a carpet when it's on.It'll suck up dust from the carpet and blow it right into your precious console. It also messes up the fans.

Overall:It does the job, but just pay attention. It's far from perfect, but it sure beats another product (which I will not name) that attaches to your XBox and uses the XBox's power supply, and THEREFORE VOIDS THE WARRANTY (and it actually doesn't really work). You'll need to be diligent about cleaning the fans, but seeing as how you're even considering buying this to protect your console, that shouldn't be a problem. If you're unlucky like me, one, or maybe both of your fans will die within a couple of months. But the fans SHOULD, ideally, last a couple of years. The fact that it uses its own power supply is both a gift and a burden. It means you can preserve your precious warranty and not put extra strain on your XBox power supply and the XBox itself, but it also means an extra cable and adapter to carry around. However, getting over these hurdles, the stand's unique vertical design and fan positioning really work well, and do the job.
