+ A new chapter in a classic game which many of us love. If you're a fan of Wolfenstein 3D or Return to Castle Wolfenstein, you'll LOVE this game.
+ Gripping story. Greatly evolves as you progress in the game.
+ Some very cool new twists in the story as well as the game play. Things like gravity and the Veil which is further explained in review.
Cons
- Slightly dated graphics, level design, and game play
- Online multiplayer can be a little dull. Mostly due to the level design and difficulty level.
Graphics: 3 1/2 out of 5
Game play: 3 out of 5
Story: 5 out of 5
Sound: 4 1/2 out of 5
Originality: 3 out of 5
Multiplayer: 2 out of 5I am a fan of classic Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This game is fun. It reminds me so much of the classic games from years ago. For what else is out right now and how far games have come, to me, this game takes a step back. It is an old game, with better graphics and some slightly new ideas. Don't get me wrong, there are new little surprises and cool additions to the game play and storyline, but all in all, this is a basic game with a simple style and classic game play/menus/control.
After playing Killzone 2, Infamous, Dead Space, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Resident Evil 5, Wolfenstein seems like a game which may have come out a few years ago, and been pretty good. With what else is out right now, and how far developers have pushed the limits of what can be done in a video game, this game does seem very dated.
The pros of this game are a pretty solid story and the little new twists in the atmosphere of the game. One new idea with the game play is the Veil. The Veil is a green blanket which covers the gaming world which you are in and transforms everything around you. It basically is a doorway between two worlds or detentions. You activate the Veil with a medallion you found. Let's say you are in the regular world walking around and come to a dead end. You activate the Veil and where there once was a wall, there now is a doorway. There is more to it as the game progresses and you can use it anytime and in more creative ways. You can collect four crystals to add to the medallion which give you different powers. Powers like the Veil, slowing down time, a shield, and intensifying your weapons. These powers drain your medallion which will then need to be recharged by standing over one of the little recharging portal peppered throughout the game. They are everywhere.
One simple yet really fun thing in the game is the anti-gravity tanks that are tossed in levels from time to time. If an enemy is near them, shot the tank and they'll go floating off. Much more fun to shoot.
This games mission design is set up a little differently. You can speak with people about mission and choose to do them in the order you wish. At times you may only have one mission. At others you may have 3 or so missions which you need to complete. And you can do them in any order you like. I wouldn't say it is a free roam game, but I think that is what they were going for.
You can upgrade all your weapons in the black market. Your medallion and Veil powers can also be upgraded. There are a lot of neat little supernatural weapons. The Particle Cannon for example is a weapon you collect from a big guy you must defeat. The Particle Cannon shoots this lightning like beam and completely disintegrates enemies.
Over-all, this is a decent game, but it is very basic game play and has been done hundreds of times before. The Veil is very interesting and carries this otherwise dull game. Yes you can shoot bad guys heads off. Yes there are these Nazi zombie skeleton dudes. But the AI kinda sux. Very basic.
I didn't hear too much about this games release and I took a chance and went out and bought it. Am I disappointed? Not to the extent where I would totally regret buying it. But I was expecting a little more. Better graphics and tighter game play. I find that the further I get into this game, the more I like it. It should keep me busy until Batman Arkham Asylum comes out next week.
I hope this review helped those of you out there wanting a basic idea of how good Wolfenstein is. Thanx.

The storyline of Wolfenstein picks up where the events of Returnto Castle Wolfenstein left off. You play B.J. Blazkowicz, a highly decoratedmember of the Office of Secret Actions (OSA). You are sent on a specialmission into the heart of the Third Reich to investigate evidence of theNazi's possession of a new and mysterious power. But while behind enemylines, you discover they have done much more than develop a new weapon. The Nazis are attempting to harness the supernatural power of an enormousenergy source called 'Black Sun' which resides in a parallel dimension called'The Veil.' Their goal is to use what they find to create supernatural weaponsand soldiers of war-ending magnitude. Yours is to stop that from happeningby any mean necessary. Gameplay
Even though the game obviously features loads of Nazi enemies, Wolfensteinis not so much a World War II game, as a game centered around "dark science"and "Supernatural Science fiction." In it players move between the theparallel dimension of the Veil and that of our own as they command anenormous arsenal of conventional weapons or unleash the Nazi's own darkpowers and perverted science against them with supernatural weapons andVeil-enhanced firepower. One of the major strengths of Wolfenstein is that it allowsyou to choose the way you want to play. Although as in previous gamesin the series B.J. Is a one man wrecking crew, he also works with a localresistance group. This means that players have the choice to follow thestandard missions as they are revealed, take on requests from the resistanceto explore the gameplay area and investigate the Nazi experiments, orto tackle the whole endeavor in multiplayer mode. Veil Power
A huge part of Wolfenstein's sci-fi identification comes via gameplaythat relies on the accumulation and use of a number of 'Veil Powers'.These powers though supernatural in origin, are used in large part byB.J. To magnify the effectiveness of his conventional weaponry and tactics.A sampling of these powers include: 'Mire,' which allows you to slow downtime around B.J. So that he can take out enemies and obstructions suchas machine gun nests, without the risk of taking severe damage; 'VeilSight,' a sort of supernatural night vision that helps you see enemiesin the dark; and 'Veil Shield,' which absorbs bullet fire and can be usedas a battering ram in some circumstances. As with all the weapons in thegame, all Veil Powers can be upgraded and indeed must be in some casesto proceed through the game. A notable caveat that comes along with the mastery of Veil Powers isthat they do not necessarily guarantee overall success. As the game proceeds, the Nazis become aware of B.J. And his understanding and use of thesepowers and in response distribute 'Veil Inhibitors,' devices that negatethe use of these Veil-powered abilities within range of them. This opensup a puzzle-solving aspect within Wolfenstein that require playersto explore the environments around them to find the inhibitors and destroythem in order to proceed. Key Features
